As I rezzed in August of last year, I never saw a point to them, honestly - however, I understand they were once a useful (if not abused) tool...so no sniffle's from this avatar...

think the worst part of ratings going away is the fact its another reminder how much things have changed.

And not really for the better

Why did they remove ratings, imo that was a bad move there killing everything unique about SL and Orginal , and making it bland and generic

I'm guessing that some of the people bemoaning the loss of ratings, may havecome from the Gaming World? It was the closest thing to a "Score" you had in SL. Just a hunch, no empirical data to back that claim up, of course.

I dont really mind ratings being gone. They didnt do much after they changed the stipend.

Its more the Nostalgia thing. Youd have liked SL back when the world was a lot smaller.

There were people with a high ratings who didn't really deserve their ratings. It all became meaningless.

Once upon a time, rating somebody only cost L$1, and so the rating system was badly abused. People at parties would rate eachother just to be nice.

We don't need a rating system anyway. If somebody is a good builder then you'll hear about it. If somebody is nice, then you'll hear about it.

Our reputation is the best rating ever. Not some silly numbers.

I think they did more to fuel residents ego than anything else. I graciously reciprocate your your 9.1. ;)

As compared to what? There's no even remotely similar platform out there yet...kind of hard to be 'generic' when you're the only one in existence.

I was thinking: Lindens received the income for every rate.... now they wont have that income anymore..... poor lindens... :( . Should we donate to Governor Linden in compensation?

I would have much preferred seeing 'traffic' get the axe instead.

Since by the time I came into SL they cost 25 I was actually quite happy when people rated me. It meant it was worth the time to do so rather than a simple "courtesy rate" and I, in turn, would rate others when I felt it was deserved. Saying that, now they're gone, I won't miss them. As an indicator of the person's skill or behaviour they were redundant, a conversation or review of their work will tell you far more than a number. We'd all have been better giving the 25 to each other instead!

I liked them. When I saw something amazing within the world, I was happy to pay the 25L to rate that creator. And it was kind of a nice indicator to see what kinds of things people were known for.

Not necessary, but I'm a little bummed all the same.

Yes..more useless numbers. The Providers really seem to be hung up on Numbers.......

Same here. But many people just were either envy of those that had them them higher. Or just did not understand there "WAS" a time rates had this imprtant. and it was just not for making you weekly pay higher. I sad to see them go but, time does go on. :)

I'd be a lot happier about them taking out the ratings if and I do mean if they hadn't broken things in the process of doing it!

Otherwise, I found I never even looked at the ratings, including my own. I found they were kinda useless when back when I started, there were people paying others to vote for them.. just to get the L bonus from the votes. And the ones with the highest (what was it called.. personality? consideration? kindness? Whatever, the one based for personal interactions) was always the biggest jerks too. I judged by my own interactions with the person after that.

Personally the ratings system has been defunked since you could only rate 3 different ares and not give a negitive. If you give a positive rating to someone and they are evil to another person just for personal reasons, there was no way to show this. And the price myself was nothing really. It is a sad thing they are doing away with it but, I tended to go by reputation and so on since some ratings had been inflated by alts and also friends giving someone an inflated rating like building and they have no knowledge of the build tools UI to start with.

I mean come on if you have a 1751 rating in building and have to ask how to change the hole size in a torus, something is wrong.

Its fine with me leave ratings out, reputation and portfolios and actuall showmanship is the best means of being rated, IMO.

Okay I luv ya Ba Bye
