Transfer or Copy on clothing

OK, How about a simple poll. For clothing purchases do you prefer no copy / transfer or copy / no transfer.

I, and lots of merchants need to know. I sell all my clothing as mod / no copy / transfer so people can give them as gifts, or sell them / give them away when they get bored with them. I've never been asked for copy / no transfer, and I know lots of my customers buy 2 of the same thing, one to keep, one to give as a gift. Also, that's how it is in RL. If you buy a dress or anything else for that matter, you don't expect to be able to copy it, but you do expect to be able to give it away. Yet I read lots of people in the forum say they hate no copy / transfer. So simple question, to transfer, not to transfer?

I prefer no copy/transfer

well um I would prefer full perms as would we all LOL

but yes as a designer I too sell mine no copy/ transfer yes

same reasoning to be able to give or resell later if they desire.

IF someone wanted it copy/no transfer I would change the perms and sell it to them that way at the same price. Not like it is a hard thing to do.

so I voted for option #2

I used folders of favorite outfits, in some cases I have items I like, that need to be in more than one folder.

Myself personally, I probably would not buy a wardrobe item if I did not have ability to copy to more than one folder. So I voted the first (so far the lone vote there).

I prefer trans/no copy/ and really really perfer mod. sometimes the creator made a shirt / pants that needs leg or sleeve adjustments.

I agree, I ALWAYS sell my clothing with mod permission, that's a must.

Definitely agree there, has to be no copy/transfer. and yes not having mod can be a real pain, i've bought a few items that have ended up being useless to me because I couldn't make them fit properly.

I hear the argument for the outfit folders, but I still vote no copy/ transfer. The thing that tips the scales for me is knowing that I can transfer an item to my alt.

oh, wait....just remembered something. I hate to adjust edit prim skirts if I can't make a copy first in case i really goof it up. Hmmmm....

Truth is, if I like it I buy it and the perms are what they are.

There is no winner for NC/T vs C/NT really. Everyone has their own reasons on why they prefer one over the other and they're all valid.

A more useful poll might be whether people bother to inquire whether they can get different permissions than the ones listed? If I notice that a store is selling C/NT and I find there's several items I want that add to over $1k total then I'll leave an IM with the seller and ask. If it's just one item I want, I don't and just tp away and don't come back.

I did post a feature suggestion ages ago (Irreversible NC/T to C/NT change permission - /13/11/166090/1.html) which should probably settle the preference for everyone, but noone really chimed in :).

Actually, Copy/NoTrans.

I prefer to make up outfits out of different sets. Add to that,if I Mod something, I'd like a back up in case I REALLY screw it up, and to keep what the creator had as "original conent". PLUS with SL being so borked on rezzing lately, backups are always a great thing to have.

I honestly won't buy NoCopy items anymore. Period.

Why pay for something that may go byebye due to a glitch when other markets offer the same as Copy for sort of a backup insurance policy?

~Jessy

EDIT:: Of course, I have no Alts, so Trans doesn't mean a thing to me. If a friend wants a set, I'll tell them where to buy it. *Grins* Another bonus for the seller. More sales ^.~

I much prefer copy so I can back them up to. Well outside of things that give you multiple colors then I like trans. I love bying that kind of stuff and giving out gifts. I spent more at bare rose then I have at any other cloths store in sl combined because I can give out gifts adn dress up friends.

So if you wanted C/NT you would have to transfer the item to yourself. Is that possible?

One other thing that would be useful is the ability to create shortcuts in your inventory. That would at least allow you to create outfits with non-copy clothing.

The idea would be that you just have an extra little box to tick as the creator that says "Allow NC/T to C/NT".

When they buy it goes into inventory as NC/T, but if they preferred C/NT they could right-click and "Convert to C/NT" and have their own preference and everyone's happy :).

yeah in fact most things should be no copy/transfer. It is nice that a warning box shows up when you go to transfer it "are you sure you want to give it away? etc" yes!

I'd vote for it Kitty. Great idea.

Transfer! When I *do* go shopping, I will see stuff and think, "____ would LOVE that!" and if it's no-transfer, it better be a pretty cool item or I won't bother contacting the seller. Impulse buys don't always happen if you have to work to get the item to the person you want to give it to.

And yeah, I love that idea for the conversion feature. So cool!

Kitty, I like that idea too! Put it up in JIRA so that we can vote for it!

Many times I've seen things while shopping that I thought would be good for my alt or a friend, most of the time I see no transfer and think have to drop back with my alt or give a landmark to my friend but it's not the same, sales are undoubtably lost.
Other times my robot main ends up with brand new useless items and finds I can't transfer them to whoever I brought them for so I delete them.
And other Transferables usually end up being given away to noobs to keep my inventory in the 5000's, I'm more reluctant to delete transferables, it feels like your throwing an artists painting in the rubbish bin because you can't give it away.

Clothing is, I think, the only exception to my "don't buy no-copy items" rule. I have yet to lose an item of clothing due to failure to rez, so no-copy is less potentially harmfull, and I appreciate being able to pass things I no longer wear to alts or others.

I'm obviously a NC/T kinda gal, as mentioned in the other thread about this. I also like to resell things and/or send them to an alt when I feel like it. This is what drives me batty about skins btw. Spending SO much on a bundle of skins (4 to a pack etc) which only has 1 that I like (but only sold as the bundle)...I would have easily been able to give one to my alt but, no transfer. Rats...

I tend to stay away from NT items as there's just no real way to see it in detail on yourself from a grainy pic of someone else wearing it. Have become quite good at moving thru my inventory and finding pieces of outfits to put together, so I really have no need for copy perms for clothing. I'm not sure i buy the ol "need to copy cuz SL will eat it" thing cuz we're talking about clothing texture layers, not prim hair or jewelry that needs to be physically created in world. There's almost no risk at all if you r-click-->wear the items from the inventory. Dragging things onto yer AV is just askin for trouble.
I've stopped buying completely from sellers that have no mod perms on clothing... period.

Well, the same quesion applies to things besides clothing. I started selling, let's call it furniture, as C/NT, but then I found people were buying several copies assuming it was NC/T. So I switched to NC/T as it seemed to me to be what people expected.

Pure clothing- I always always prefer no copy/transfer. Anything at all that involves prims on the body- I prefer copy no transfer. Prims with no real need of adjustments should be no copy/transfer. So it kinda depends on the item. Prim skirts/hair/shoes/jewelry etc are pretty much the only things I actively seek copy/no transfer for... but I'll still buy them no copy/transfer

Which is why I voted no copy/transfer. I'm really interested in the votes though- I'm finally finishing up the building for my shop and looking at opening in the next month and packaging (both prim style and permissions) is on my mind. =)

Any item that can be worn should be transferrable in my opinion. If I'm out shopping with a lady and she wants an item I should be able to buy it for her.

That is a tremendous idea, it solves the problem very succinctly :)
Now if only it were to come true....

I wonder, do any stores with lots of space offer the same item twice, once as NC/T and once as C/NT?

I've seen a handful of shops do this, one was selling houses- another jewelry.
