I don't know that an orientation needs to take up an entire sim. There is no reason you couldn't create levels/platforms that accomplish the same thing. It certainly isn't a prim intensive undertaking.

It may not be prim intensive, but it'll certainly fill up your sim with all the newbies coming through.

Considering in participating in this effort myself vis-a-vis Caledon.

Won't get into details. Still undecided; my main concern is if the effort will be sustainable over months and months, and if my input ($L, effort, community focus) will be sufficient for a quality experience.

Well, L Word has been doing it for awhile and I hear its going well. Maybe you could see what they are doing and if it would work for you. You sign up directly for Second Life from the LWord Webpage and then go through their orientation system.

Coming in thru Caledon (hehe maybe people could be citizens if they come in thru your world) would be much nicer than the way it is now.

Combined with rental units for new people (L Word has rental homes), Caledon would make a great place to use as home base while exploring the rest of SL. New Residents would quickly see that they started from one of the best places in SL.

I'm getting a picture in my mind of a number of adult men's magazine operated entry complexes with new, age verified members entering from something like a playboy.com web page, where one gets a bit of training, then enters "pay to access" parcels with voice chatting virtual bunnies.
