Clueless about the "how to" put streaming music on my parcel?

Hi and hope you can enlighten me!

I'm trying to add streaming music to my place. I found a link I like here: /327/a6/166775/1.html

And I know I have to put the URL in the media tab in about land, but not sure how to go about that. Can anyone tell me in simple terms the steps that I need to take to achieve this?
Never done anything remotely like this before.... so be gentle with me please!

I'm no expert, but if you have the URL you want to listen to just cut-n-paste or type it in on the media tab. Also, under preferences, look at the audio/video? section and make sure you have streaming audio enabled. With any luck that should work.

If you are looking for URL's try Winamp. If you don't have it you can download a free version. It has a good search function.

If internet radio suits you,

Go to shoutcast.com and find a channel you like

Play this channel in Winamp

Use Winamp's File Info option to highlight and control C copy the stream url.

In SL click the parcel title at the top of the screen

Click the Media tab

Put the cursor in the Music URL field and press Control V to paste.

I assume you have a SL friendly music stream... a lot of music files wont play in SL, like movies... SL only supports certain types/formats.

Yes, it's working great thanks, I didn't want movies or anything fancy. Just a few tunes to listen to while I'm hanging out at home with friends. Thanks again for the helpful advice.

Hi Willow----i sell apair of L$1 speakers on SLX with built in radio script , just rez on ur land and click speakers to change channel, u can add ur own radio channels by opening the radio script and inserting radio station in the same format as ones already there-----

a friend and i rent some land and both have a house on it. she can paste a link into her media tab that plays music for the group. is there a way for her to give me control of this too? as it is now, i cannot paste anything into my media tab (in about land).

also, i have a radio and would like to play other music (other than the group music) in my house sometimes. how do i override the group music and use a url just for my house?

I have a question? I do have a url in my media tab and it was working up until yesterday but today when i click the little button on the bottom of the screen to play music it doesnt play music. The little tab just jumps back to off. Can anybody tell me whats happened and how I can fix it please?

there is only one audio stream per property. You and your friend must share the link. To have separate streams, Divide the land into 2 pieces so you each own separate plots.

Alternatively, you'll still each hear the same streams, But:
1. Your friend can get a 'Radio' that would allow you to Change the Station...There are free radios here in the forums or you can buy one in world. Also try the freebie stores.
2. Or, Establish a GROUP with you and your friend, and give the group permission to change audio streams. (Land gets shared with the group in About Land...)

Copy the URL out of the About Land tab and paste it into VLC, Quicktime or Windows Media Player. (or your web browser, in many cases.)
This will tell you if the radio station is "on the air."
