This has happened here and there before this optional viewer update, but many, many times today after installing the new viewer.
When I bring up the edit menu, SL crashes, very fast. Not every time, but often enough, think I've counted 18 crashes now.
Is this happening to anyone else, or is it something on my end?

It seems to be cumulative. Moved into my first rental place tonight, and the editing crash has been getting worse as I go along. I'm going to try and reset the cache and see if it helps, can't think of many other reasons it would be cumulative like this.
I can say, though, that right now it is a 50/50 shot that SL will go down when I click edit on an item. It was more like 1/10 earlier.

Cache didn't effect it. Still something like 1 out of three edits for me. Never seems to be the FIRST edit, though.

If it ain't broke... fix it until it is!

Yep! New viewer... crash on edit.
Of course, I'm surprised that that is the only thing that's broken, based on the LL track record.
Went back to the Nicholaz viewer. At least it works. It amazes me that one person in his spare time can do what 70% of LL's programmers can't do working full time. (That is if they actually do any full time work).

Edit..crash...edit...crash. Back to Nicholaz viewer for me too.
@Arken: the so-called 'Nicholaz viewer' is a viewer made by one of the open source contributors. He's fixed a bunch of bugs in the past, including memory leaks. you can find it at nicholaz-beresford.blogspot.com

You can find it at http://nicholaz-beresford.blogspot.com/ the current version is the e version. It may not be usable after the update tomorrow since there will be a new mandatory viewer.

I'm not getting the edit crash, but maybe I'm doing something wrong or have the wrong comp?
Like what platform is this crash happening on? Linux, Windows or Mac?

I'm running XP MCE and a Radeon X300. I get some slowdown as the edit window opens, but it doesn't crash. *knocks on wood*

Judging from this optional LL version, the next mandatory could be a disaster. Also, btw current version feedback thread on this subject : /142/4e/193360/1.htmlalso has link to jira vote

This one would probably be better: https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-1369It has more votes, comments from Torley, and a solid, LL confirmed repro listed.

I'm a little confused. I was going to download Nicholaz' viewer last week, but was confused by all the different files to download. Do I need to download and unzip each file into my SL files? Or is there just one download to perform, i.e. SL viewer updates?

Do I need to download and unzip each file into my SL files? Or is there just one download to perform, i.e. SL viewer updates? You want one of the files that start with 'nicholaz,' 17e being the most recent. Then just follow the install instructions on the download page, and you should be good to go.
