Yes, buying it is the easiest.

Working for it, the easiest method is winning it in clubs. Get together a nice selection of outfits, and a very unique looking avatar, give yourself a positive sounding profile (nothing negative or angry at anyone anywhere in there), be very nice and chatty, and hit the clubs.

I used to get about 200-1000L a week that way. But after I got my own land, I kind of dropped out of the scene.

Its also a great way to meet people, which at least for me, is kind of the whole point of being in SL.

If you have a premium account, you will receive 300L per week as a stipend.
That's over $50 dollars a year back to you in Lindens.

Or as Windy said, create stuff. Create unique stuff that everybody wants and you could be rich beyond your wildest dreams. That's no joke but it is a lot of actual work and time.

The OP obviously does not want to purchase lindens. Which would logically lead one to believe becoming premium is also not something the OP wants to do. That leaves a job as the only viable way to get lindens in SL. The problem with that strategy is that most places will not hire a brand new resident (bad experiences, I imagine, from griefers or trouble makers). Also most "jobs" in SL require some sort of experience.......at a minimum how to actually do things like chat, help people, know where to find stuff, how the inventory is arranged and accessed (basic stuff a brand new resident will have difficulty with). Dancing or hosting requires, at least, a reasonable skin, shape and clothing. All that takes time and most of all lindens.........it ain't easy. The old adage "you don't get nothin' for nothin'" applies in spades in SL.

I suppose one could search for the few camping spots left in SL or beg. But the easiest way is, as already stated, purchasing lindens.

Money trees? Are they still around? I haven't seen one in over a couple years.

And gambling.............that's a no no now in SL. That got banned a couple years ago too. Surely you're not advicing a brand new person to break the ToS. Besides, to gamble you have to have something to gamble with..........we're back to square one.

If you dont want to buy L$ for one so new there are very little opportunities there are so many ppl in SL and so few well paying jobs. Best thing to do is find what you can for free or look up Jig she may be able to lend you a few L$ I hear she is loaded

Get a free store in the NCI mall
(Try to) sell the things you made for the contests.
When you get too old or too rich to keep doing that use the skills you've aquired to create and sell your own content.

Buy it anyway would be my advice, it will be more per $/hour than any job you will find in SL.

Learn to script or to animate. The drawback is that both will take you some time to become sufficiently proficient to produce anything that's anywhere near saleable, but (and doubtless for this reason) both are, or can be, pretty lucrative once you're reasonably skilled.

If you will work in SL, you need to loose the newbie look. No matter if you work as an escort, dancer or helping ppl finding things in shops.

It's hard but not impossible. Female avatars has it much, much more easy than male. You should spend a week on getting freebies and make yourself look pretty. There are bloggers who blog only freebies. You can get all you need with a little patience and hunting. If you can't buy §L, you need to invest time.

When you apply for a job, you will need to fill out a notecard and attach a pretty picture of yourself. Just that can be difficult for totally new ppl. You need to show that you master simple tasks like that before anyone want to hire you. They want ppl who can do the job, not ppl they need to hold in the hand and guide through tutorials. Oh it's lots of tutorials about SL out there. Search and Google!

Get a real-life job and buy the lindens. Yeah, the prospect of actual work really sucks, but nothing you do in SL will pay as well as even a minimum-wage job. Unless you are *all* of the following:

1) creative
2) hard-working
3) talented
4) lucky
5) first

You will hear a lot of vague success stories in SL. They are just that. Stories. Only a few people earn real money. By "success", most people mean they aren't paying anything to be in SL, or they are able to buy virtual dresses and shoes without real money, and for this "success" they work dozens of hours or more per month.

If your goal is to take real money out of SL, a real-life job, even a crappy one, is a lot less time-consuming than a SL "job". Work a single shift for a single day at McDonalds and you will earn more money than most people *ever* do in SL.

If your goal is to be able to "play" SL without paying anything, this is more achievable, but realize that you are essentially working for pennies per hour.

If your time is worth anything at all to you, just use a damned credit card, and then spend your time enjoying SL rather than working at it.

If you can play the guitar/piano and/or sing, then consider hitting the live music scene. If you are good enough you might start to pickup a following and that is one way to make decent money. The side benefit is, it doesn't matter if you look like a noob.

I just look round my house each week and put stuff on e:bay to provide a L$ fund. I also go to auction houses locally and pick up boxes of stuff for next to nothing, do carboot sales and transfer funds via paypal.....works well for me
I don't bother camping, or doing any kind of work, as this involves using the valuable time each week, I have available for SL.

Are refillable VISA'a working this week, or are they the latest LL fixed, broken, fixed, broken feature? I have a bunch of cards from Christmas I was thinking of using. I've removed all my payment info from my account and will not associate my financial info with SL anymore.

At my contests- i pay contestants for each vote they receive, as well as award bonuses and the opportunity to double the top prize


also beware of club sponsored contests- often times people come in during the last 30 mins and TP in their friends.
