First, Krasner and a couple of other names that were on the list as recently as February are no longer on the list. So if names have been removed, are you sure that new ones aren't being added?
No last names have been added since January 2007. I'm certain of it. I have a script that checks the available name list once per hour. If any new names appear, it sends an email to a mailing list. You can join the mailing list, and view many interesting statistics about the last names, at http://slnamewatch.com

Another piece of the insidious plot to bring RL into SL...we will soon be using our real names.

It's a combination of several factors

*Laziness
*Contempt for customers
*Workload prioritization to other areas (notice that the new continents have protected areas; but no roads built on them...i.e. dirt roads)
*Restructuring the organization itself brings choas within Linden Labs, so no one has really thought to change the last names.
*HUGE influx of new residents needing help.

Fact is, LL can't see the trees because the forest is in the way.

I'm not buying #1, and I have my doubts about #2. If anyting, #5 is the biggie. I tink it's more...

* Astounding growth has overwhelmed almost all duties of Linden staffers.
* Limited number of Lindens available to do the necessary jobs has left a limited amount of time, with HR and payroll resources having to go to new servers and other top priority resources first.
* Focus has been on bug fixing and other more immediate needs (fix the grid or make up new names... hmm, which to do today)
* Low level of complaints about the name choice options, including less avenues available to complain effectively (see above about being overwhelmed, again).

With all that inmind, though, we really *do* need some new last name options. I'd be more than willing to volunteer a list or two of 'em!

My RL last name was retired in 2002 or 2003, and one of my best friends jes missed her RL last name a couple years back ;-)

No, they're lazy about that too. They did something to generate an unwarranted 'restricted' error on a lot of PayPal accounts (which work fine everywhere else) and the attitude seems to be, "We don't know why it's doing that and we don't know how to fix it. Use a different payment method."

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

Why don't you rotate the names from the past LL? There are some names with THREE people etc ...

Err... NO! :D

I don't blame you for saying that. Early adopters of SL are rewarded with a unique last name. This is by design (as outlined in the Second Life Last Name FAQ). But 16,000+ people sharing "Vuckovic"?... that's just cruel. :o

The thing is, how hard IS it to come up with new last names?

Phone books are full of them.

And what's this business with naming new sims the most horrible, ludicrous sounding, and impossible to spell names possible?

What does it say to your customers when you want everyone to name themselves Flootbatty and live in Jassinpoop? (Names I just now made up, but you get what I mean.) Puhleez.

And where is the Linden comment on this, anyhow? You don't just have something work one way forever, then . . . all of a sudden it just doesn't happen anymore. Have they said anything on this we've missed?
