SL is on crack, the update was actually a downgrade

Linden labs suffers a serious disease, it's called the "one step forward two steps back" syndrom.
What it basically does it whenever they try to improve somethings, instead of actually improving they screw things up, in about the same quantity things need to be improved.

A list of bugs already encountered on the first minute i logged in, after about an hour of buggy logins.

-the camera for some users is totally screwed up, rotating around itself instead of the selected object.
-the lack of having the ability to zoom in
-the world map looks ugly as the islands seem to be divided into 4 by 2 slightly bigger lines than normal
-fuzzy text
-the camera options are not configurable for a normal person, the shit they give you to edit is more complicated than einsteins relativity theory(when i was searching for some solution to what they screwed up).
-login errors than give faulty information about what's the problem
-sessions are broken
-some friends lists are erased
-help island is a collection of noobs, no lindens are present
-teleporting has more delay now
-the half of second life unaccesible by teleport for some users, in the first 15 minutes of their login.
-the help function is gone, no possibility to contact the lindens.
-the new camera options are faulty by default

No they didn't solve shit, they just made things worse, I hope they are smart enough to rollback this patch and start working on a proper one, or else they will have more to fix than to improve

Ok, I've been in world now for about 20 minutes.

So far I have NONE of the problems you're listing (apart from change in big map appearence).

I'm sorry its that bad for you :(

Camera's working fine for me.

Teleporting is actually faster! (prob cause there's few people on the grid still mind)

I agree the little squares on the main map are a little ugly, but still easy to see whats around the local area :)

Overall a good update. Frame rates slightly up over 1.14 (which doubled for me from 1.13). I don't have to set my dual core to single core usage (like I still had to even with 1.14 to get best performance)

Just tried building and messing about with prims, all seems to be running smooth.

Thumbs up from me so far!

The real test will be when the grid goes over 35K of course, but until then, its pretty damn rocking for me :D

Everything was fine for me - no problems and textures rezzing quickly - until I froze and had to log out but that often happens to me.

"-the help function is gone, no possibility to contact the lindens"

This unfortunately is not a bug. It was announced on the Blog several weeks ago that live help was being put out of it's misery.

"Camera rotating around itself" (fix)
This bug, introduced in SL 1.15.0 (2), can be fixed by quitting SL, and MANUALLY deleting your settings.xml file.

(it's located in "C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\Secondlife\user_settings\";)

I officially reported this bug in the beta.. and the Linden who came to check on it couldn't reproduce it. But I was finally able to trace it to something-to-do with one of the settings.xml files. Once SL is closed, just delete any instances of a file starting in "settings" and ending in ".xml"

So...
settings_firstlook.xml
settings_beta.xml
settings.xml

But don't worry about
crash_settings.xml.

Next time you load Secondlife(.exe) it will create a "fresh" settings file, that will reset whatever errant setting is giving this zero-vector when attempting to focus the camera on an object. (note: for me, the camera ONLY failed to orbit prims.. worked fine on avatars, attachments, and the ground.)

....

Add to the list of complaints:
NEW (anti-aliased) Floating text on HUD objects is very hard to read, especially when black and 50% alpha.

Maybe they should be paying US the 10 bucks a month for premium membership.

Another question about the new update: After crashing five times in one freakin minute (nog exaggerating at all!!)the last time, i decided to go back to the old version... Everything was peachy, until this download came along... The last upload was optional, which made it possible for me to go back to the old version in which i didn't have any bugs. This new version is having the exact same effect: 2 crashes in less than 5 mins. And not just crashing as in freezing, but buying something and the whole SL screen just disappearing... What the...? Anyone having the same probs cuz this is seriously annoying!!

You did all that, in ONE minute? wow, you sure can click!
(not sure how you discovered that "in the first 15 minutes" point within 60 seconds)
I suppose there couldn't be just a tad of exageration in this post, mm? ;)

The OP mentions new camera functions. Are there any?

I was doing fine until I tried to wear a HUD. Immediate crash.

Sorry but you can't go back on this update. Either this one works or it doesn't. that's all there is.

Thanks, Winter. I was going bonkers trying to get the stupid camera to orbit a prim skirt so I could make texture changes. Frustrating as heck, since I could orbit the avatar just fine.

I have to admit, for the first time post-fix/upgrade/whatever, I am having no problems at all. Everything is running better than it used to (and my pc is pretty archaic). No doubt it'll fall around my ears next time I log in because Ive said this, but for one shining moment it was bliss. :)

I haven't installed the update yet, will do so in an hour or so, who knows what I will find. But it sounds like this one may be the mold breaker , in the time I've been here at least.

I was pretty much satisfied with the update in the first hour - inventory got a whole lot faster, and the framerates have gone up a bit too.

However the second hour was a complete mess - TP not working most of the time, objects fail to rez, unable to pay, got stuck, so I had to logout in the end... At least these are all old bugs, and I haven't seen many new, plus once again: the inventory is definately faster for me! (Probably this is the first time when I see actual improvement in performance.) So I would say it's an update, but we still need several more, and they better come soon.

Okay, I've been in and out (one crash, one log out) of SL for the last hour or so. Overall, this is a BIG improvement over the last viewer, which I couldn't run. So I jumped from the old 1.13 to this one, and my graphics card is not overheating and crashing my computer.

Pros: textures load much faster, fps seems smooth, lag was only intermittent and mild, more texture stability over the course of the session

Cons: some texture flickering and layer swapping at first, and one crash (but only of SL, not my computer system, which is progress)

I can live with this, unlike the last version which was destroying my computer.

I'm sick of the camera. Really, really sick. Did as Winter suggested and the moment I teleported the camera issue was back. I hate it rotating on itself and not the prim I am aiming for. Plus it's making me sick to handle, which really sucks, because I love building. Why didn't I see this happening in the BETA?!

Raudf... I hadn't tried teleporting after the bug appeared fixed in beta. Oddly, it hasn't raised it's head for *me* in non-beta.. which is funny cause I was the one reporting it IN the beta... Please please please file a bug report on this. it seems to be the ONLY way to let a linden know at this point, that something is horribly wrong.

Yes, the camera rotation bug is a nuisance.

So a workaround would be to (i) delete the settings*.xml files before every program start and (ii) log off and on again in a different region instead of TPing.

What happens if you delete the settings.xml file while SL is running (can't try right now). Is this also solving the problem?

So far, so good. No probs at all, and it's a huge improvement. Spent all evening trying stuff out and couldn't find anything that was listed in this thread. Overall good job, LL!

My understanding is that either the file will fail to delete (in use) or else (more likely) a new file with the same current settings will be written, on program close. (defeating the point of deleting it. A third possibility is that the program itself will crash or die in a bad way, when it can't find the settings file all of a sudden.

The startup process checks for the file, and if not found, creates a fresh one with "first time user" settings. I wonder if one of the settings Raudf immediately re-sets after starting up (a certain display setting perhaps?), isn't the cause of the problem (hence why it reasserts).

Well, version 1.15 works on my laptop again, 1.14 did not.
So far we have a great improvement I'd say.

I have not tried building yet, a network bug
/111/1d/178042/1.html
is still keeping me away from my homeland, where I do my builds.
