Reality check for Giannia: Providing online gambling is illegal in the jurisdiction in which LL conducts business. If they engage in an illegal activity, LL would risk penalties, large legal fees, and possible closure. LL made the business decision to avoid these risks by banning the activity in question. The ban has nothing to do with age verification or minors on the main grid.

From: shiney Sprocket I'm talking a real 100% Visa from my bank with my name on it. I was 15 when I got it.
Obviously my father had to co-sign the contract, but the card was under my name and effected my credit. There you go then, flag those cards as not acceptable for verification. You've got an associate card. The UK national lottery website won't accept cards that people under 16 can own.

lets just say all of this is happening because of some issue with minors
WHY the hell are we having to replace some childs parents
we are not their parents their parents should be policing what they do not us
am i the only parent around that does not allow my children on the internet unless they are on the computer right next to me and i see every single website they go to and they are not allowed on any internet game they i have not investigated beforehand and they are not allowed on those games unless their laptop is not right next to me so i can monitor them?
why are we having to play parent out there to every unmonitored kiddie out there so parent can then blame companies for what their child has done and gotten into
its time for parents to take some damn responsibility for their childs actions!!

Since minors are not supposed to be here in the first place, whatever addiction they may or may not acquire is not LL's concern. They have made it quite clear that SL is for age 18 and over.
If parents allow their children free access to the internet, that is their problem, not ours.

From: Giannia Rossini Another issue: there is significant backlash against Harry Potter, for teaching the dangerous idea that magic works. To these people, any kind of fantasy roleplay would be viewed as harmful to children. Making them believe in angels, dragons, talking animals, vampires.... I use to say the same about the Bible. Unlike Harry Potter books, the kids even keep believing in this special form of magic when they grow up. Talking snakes, people raised from the dead, a giant boat built to save dinosaurs, tapeworms, ticks and platypus... what's the plural of platypus? Platypussies? Anyway, there are grown adults out there who sincerely believe these fairy tales.

I agree. Unfortunately, many governments, including the U. S. government, don't. And they have much more clout than we do.

Sheesh. Really? I once had a creationist explain to me that every creature used to live a lot longer before the flood, so the lizards grew much larger back then. After the flood they didn't get old enough to grow to a giant size anymore. Well, some did, but they were killed in medieval times, hence all the legends about dragons

I am seriously considering going through all the archives and cataloguing the various "this will be the end of SL" statements. Then maybe turn it into a journal article titled "Virtual fatalism: prophesying metaversal collapse." Who knows, it might even earn me an Ig Nobel Prize!
