How do I find out the actual PIXEL by PIXEL size of the image in the PROFILE window. My snapshots always end up looking squashed.

Depends, i use 512 x 385.

If you are making a texture specifically (in photo shop or whatever) for your profile or classifieds, it's 512x384. When you upload it, SL will do as it pleases with it and squash it, but that is the proper aspect ratio.
