I have went and served many guys in those free gay sex place in last few months.
I will tell you after two months of same thing its enough to make you never want to do it again.
What I wanted was someone I could hang out with be intimate with not necessarily adult purposes but just companionship for a afternoon or evening and I didn't have problem giving back something for the person energy or time.
The free places are basically that its a bunch of newbies or guys who been around block who hit every place that exist in their preferred interest and its all about one thing, usually not the people they are with.

Maybe a little impersonal, but my suggestion would be to approach it as anything else you buy (RL or SL).

If you have questions about a service or product you'll generally just go ahead and ask them and if the sales person is evasive/unfriendly/won't talk to you unless you buy or commit first then you'll likely just not buy it or feel something fishy is going on.

An escort should be willing to just talk to you for a little while (as long as you're obviously not trying to get a 'free ride') until you get a sense of what their personality is like. If they're curt, obviously distracted or pushing for payment then they'll be little different on the actual date. If they're friendly then they'll likely be friendly during the date as well.

As far as pre-selection goes, I don't see why it would be different than any other avie you meet. If they're in 20 sex groups or have a near empty profile, they're likely an alt; if they look like a regular person who happens to escort that's a big plus. Clothing, account age, payment status are all things to use to form an opinion with.

The notecard will be the biggest yes/no since the personality will shine through in that. If the card is bland and uninteresting you'll likely find the person who wrote it bland and uninteresting too. If the card is imaginative and engaging they'll likely be in person too.

Just another moment of faulty thinking on my part and it was embarrassing but I brought it up here I guess to use this painful experience maybe to prevent others from experiencing same thing.
