Has anyone else lost inventory items in the last few hours, or while sl has been being a pain? I went to wear aomething, got the attachment pending message, got logged out, came back & it wasn't on me or in my inventory, including lost & found & trash! I've cleared cache, rebooted the pc & sl, still no luck. Has it gone for good?

it might return but in future when the grid is really bad and you see info on the blog you might want to not login to save this from happening. Wait till its stable again and try loging in and out a few times I"m told that can make things reappear but I have my doubts. I have yet to find anything that has disappeared on me either from inventory or left out on the ground.

I would say it is gone for good since I lost a few L100$ lastnight and it is still not recovered and doubt I will see it again. Also I bought a new outfit this morning and it is no where to be found...grumbles.

It's without a doubt the thing that bugs me most, once I *lost* a L$2,000 horse, I assumed i'd accidentally deleted him but then read about others with this problem. Grrr I suspected this item had gone for good but hoped it hadn't, ah well i'll take your advice, Wilhelm, my own fault

Some business owners will replace an item for you if you tell them what has happened... it's at least worth a shot unless they have specifically posted in their shop that they do not replace items.

Grid is open
07-30-2007 13:33
ok, you check on the condition of the grid you get "grid is open". You read Linden blog, about 8 hours out of date. nothing about all the major problems going on, nothing about inventory being lost, no warnings, nothing. So, just how do you find out if the grid is "stable" on a timely basis without logging in?

anymore i try not to do any 'heavy lifting' if there's more than 40k online. (still there are peak times where i 'hafta do something' and yet the grid can't keep up...) it's not a perfect solution, but sometimes i just write down a note and perform the task later.
also, peak hours or not, i try not to do the same (no 'heavy lifting') in a busy sim - i 'dress up' at home where it's quiet, or flying over to an adjacent sim even. less probs there usually. (barring 'gridwide' probs like we've seen this weekend:\) losing something during 'rez' is chancey, sorry it happened to you. :\ clearing cache may help recover inventory - again, find a nice quiet place to do so first. ![]() ![]() _____________________

There is a thread in the "Technical Issues" forum called "Vanishing Items" here:
/111/4c/199761/1.html Many of your fellow SLers are having this same issue. There are a few open issues on JIRA that address this. They are as follows: http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/MISC-496 The following issue is the one that was opened last March or April when SL was eating inventory items again and was an "umbrella" issue to cover the multitude of inventory loss issues related to poor database "practices." I say practices because it may be poorly written database code and was certainly even confirmed by Corey Linden, I believe in a townhall where he admitted that someone wrote a faulty DB "move" script that was not very fault-tolerant which wound up eating quite a bit of inventory. http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-114 Please, if this issue is important to you (and how can it NOT be?) login to JIRA and look at either of these and VOTE for them. I lost my Amethyst collar that was loaded with a lot of customizations. I lost it trying to rez it in a fairly empty sim. Just ... gone. And I have absolutely no recourse with my lost things other than hope for the goodwill of the creators. However, my customizations are lost forever. Linden Labs... you are nearly deplorable with this inventory loss thing. I only give you the slightest benefit of the doubt because when your creation does work, it still provides me a bit of enjoyment. I wonder how long that will continue though with all of this spottiness. |

Check ALL your folders...
07-30-2007 14:09
Samaira, the last time that happened to me, I found many of the items I had lost in weird places in my inventory. After I found the first misplaced item I went through every folder and found things all over, in totally unrelated places. Subfolders had been scattered everywhere.
Take a look and see. Good luck! Dag "Oh good, my shoes are in my butt again!" |

Also I bought a new outfit this morning and it is no where to be found...grumbles. If the outfit doesn't return, try IMing/dropping notecard to the creator/seller. Many will replace the item, especially those that are mod/copy with no transfer. I took a risk and worked on exactly ONE Onrez drop box today. And I didn't put it full of merch, just a few to test the waters so to speak. I fully expect it to be completely gone when I log back in later on. _____________________

I've looked in every folder in my inventory, checked worn, looked to see what attachments are where on me, it's without a doubt definitely not there anymore. The item is no copy/transfer, but the clinic don't replace them, i'd have to buy another. Thanks for all advice/help, i've read all of the Jira 496 & added my comments & voted!

Yeah, good rule of thumb is when the blog essentially says "don't do anything important with your stuff" then you shouldn't do anything at all.
My g/f lost a disco ball and a speaker when she was setting up her roller rink this weekend! _____________________

When things get better you might try the clear cache/relog maneuver several times My partner lost a good chunk of her inventory once, and clear cache/relog didn't bring it back ... but doing that six or seven times did.
Who knows ... maybe it would have reappeared after a few hours even if she hadn't. But it can't hurt to try. |
