Absent for 3 years, your land declared abandoned, OK?

I have been trying to get a parcel declared abandoned -- no response from Lindens yet.
The owner, Jackson Strutt hasn't posted since August 2003. Isn't this a good indication that he's not coming back to SL? Is it possible he hasn't had anything to say in the forums for 3 years? I doubt that, since he seemed pretty upset about various things in his posts.
The parcel has a shop on it that obviously hasn't been touched in a very long time, and there is a lot of junk lying around. This is another indication, he's gone and not coming back.

I'm posting this topic in Resident Answers so others can join the conversation (which you can't do in the Linden Land Mgmt forum).

Much of the population of SL hasn't so much as looked at the forums, let alone posted here, so not using the forums isn't a great indicator of anything much aside from the fact he's not using the forums. Mini melodramas can make people storm off the board and not bother with it again, without giving up SL. If this person was upset on the forums then they could well have done the same. The 'community' here is very different to that in world for most folk. I only see one or two people I 'know' post here, and in world rarely bump into anyone who posts here.

If a name is still searchable then they most likely haven't left, or at the least they're still paying for their account, even if they're not around much or at all.

Another thing to consider...

People get banned from the forums but are very active in game. It's possible, if this person was very vehement on the forums, they went too far once and got permabanned from posting.

There's several VERY well known people who have been banned from the forums, but thier presence is defintely felt in game.

Ok Forum presence doesn't always indicate in-world presence

I'm glad of anyone taking an interest it this topic. If you read Jackson Strutt's posts, you'll find he was a polite person and not an aggressor in his troubles during his alleged final days in SL. His in-world profile shows good ratings (of course negative ratings are not implemented).
I have IM'd everyone in the group he belongs to, and none of them have replied -- they probably quit before e-mail forwarding was implemented.
STill paying on his account? No, this guy has a lifetime account. These were being given out early on, I'm told.
So points about Forum presence taken, not necessarily an indication of never-coming-back-to-SL. Take a look at the parcel, exactly in the NE corner of Hawthorne. This spot has gone to seed, and it's quite a large parcel, around 2000-2500 square meters, in an area where land is worth about 40L per square meter. Would you just let it lay around for three years? Even if you intended to keep it forever, wouldn't you want to do something else with it?

Hi Nickel,

The land you refer to is not abandoned. It is owned by an active group.

There are also many older SL residents who may have abandoned SL in that they don't really log in and do anything, but they still have active stores, own land, and are still making a profit. They don't have to log in to trade their L$ to US$. So as long as the tier is paid, (or it's lifelong as you say) then the land isn't abandoned.

Dearly Darling,

That would imply that active = trashy. We police our charity property for trash every day. Likewise for my personal home in Green. It is not that hard to be a good neighbor.

Dearly Darling Allana,

You cannot tell me with the lovely work you produce that your property looks like a garbage dump. I would never believe that. As for the group in question, surely some "active member" with permissions can go clean that up.

Ever Yours,

I have a plot of land near mine that I wonder if it is abandoned as the owner is no longer in find. I asked Guy Linden to come clean up the stray prims and crashed spaceship on said land and he was happy to do so.

So that should help w/ the 'trashy' look.

As for a lifetime account holder, did they not also at one time also get a certain amount of land that came free of tier? Maybe that is the case here. And if so it would be unfair to declare it 'abandoned'

hehe ty

And no, but I'm the kind of neatfreak that pisses off the roomates by throwing away their socks. :p

If it really is a mess then yes, it seems someone needs to just go in and set the land permissions. It would take about a minute. Maybe this thread will give them the hint.

Yes, good point Nyx. If this is a fair case for eminent domain as I claim, then the Lindens (or someone else) should pay a fair price for the parcel. Let them have fair compensation or let them have an equivalent volume of land somewhere else. Let us who live in-world have the use of it.

This is a private dispute. For what I've been reading so far even the facts seem to be in contention. That all said, this thread violates the Private discussions Guidelines.
