looking for realistic hair

Has anyone out there found hair that looks remotely realistic?
It seems like the skin and clothing technology has advanced leaps and bounds over hair, and it is my avatar's hair that keeps her looking a little like a cartoon character. I've looked at all the big name hair designers and find it is all very chunky and unrealistic.
Anyone have any good recommendations?
Thanks!

Naughty designs / Lost Therian - makes very realisitic hair.
They use very realistic fine TGA textures
The problem is the better / more realistic the textures - the more likely the alpha part of the hair will get all messed up by alpha channels in the world around you.
Where the more solid hair is immune to this.
So the more photo real the hair - potentially the less user freindly.
That all being said I use Lost's hair 90% of the time =p
I also like Here comes trouble, ETD, gurl 6 - for the more solid texture hair (this can be flexi also)

Morwen. If you mean Lash Xevious, she's either closed up shop or is in the process of doing so, according to her blog. ETD's Couture line uses more alpha textures, so the hair ends have a 'wispy' appearance...the OP might like those, even if *gasp* she's not an ETD fan in general.

I swear by Robin Sojourner's textured hair option. It's prim less, so no lag, and comes in a variety of colors and even with a nicely done ponytail version.
The textures she's created are very realistic, very detailed, in which you can see individual strands, and with a gloss that gives them depth.

Thanks for all this input, but I'm quite familiar with these designers, and they exemplify exactly what I'm talking about.
Anyone seen anything different out there???
I'd agree with Colette that Naughty comes the closest, but they don't sell any realistic light reds, which is my preferred hair color.
Haven't checked out Pazazz yet, so I will definitely do that.

To echo Beebo, Robin makes lovely textured hair. Probably a good option if hair from places like Naughty isn't for you. To find the shop, just look up Robin Sojourner in Search. Shop's the first link in Picks. Good luck.

From: Scarlet Allandale Thanks Beebo. Where does Robin sell hair? Robin has several shops (she's a very talented lady), so look for the AV Shop in particular, which is located in Benten. One of the colors she offers is a deep red, and several shades of blond. It might be possible to shade the blond version with the red color slider and get what you're looking for. In these lag-ridden days, it's reassuring to know that I'll never show up somewhere looking completely bald.

Well the ETD couture line looks great on me but I use the jet colours only and they tend to look more natural.
You could also try Cake...her dark long hair is very nice...maybe the red will be okay.

I personally love the hair made by Calico. I found the shop by pure accident and now that is all I wear. I love the way the hair wisps around my face and frames in nicely and the variety of colors are awesome too!

Another voice for Tami McCoy. She has a wonderful light red shade (in fact, I believe that is what it's called) and the best short styles around. Her textures are very delicate and give the illusion of many strands of hair, rather than big clumps. Her do's are all I've been wearing for over 6 months (just try to take Peanut away from me!).

If youre talking the 'realistic' im thinking... Like what you see in those DAZ ads.............. I havent seen anything close to that in SL. however i guess theyre 2 totally dif things. IMO the hair in Sl just looks really fake compared to that in some of the DAZ products. ( http://www.daz3d.com/i.x/shop/itemdetails/-/?item=4881&cat=12 )

If not, does anybody know any hair designers who want to try to make that? It seems like it would be possible (not that I know a whole lot about hair design, but a little).

From: Scarlet Allandale I've been to that shop, in fact, my skin is by Robin (Yummy Gingersnap-- the best skin in all of SL). All I saw there were male hairstyles. What am I missing???? Umm, a flexible perspective? Hair is pretty much hair -- you style it to suit yourself. So even though Robin (for reasons known only to her) chooses to market her products as "male" hairstyles, there really isn't anything inherently gender-specific about Linden hair. Don't like it? Move the sliders. Any differences in the male and female hair UI are far too subtle for me to disccern. My overriding concern was that I wanted very short hair and even after posting here on the forum, I was never able to find any women's prim hair that fit that bill and most men's prim hair was so scraggly or poorly textured that I wasn't interested in wearing it either. Robin's hair works perfectly for my objective, but I could just as easily have styled it to fall down my back in a more traditional woman's fashion. The ponytail is also perfectly suited for men and women, and is modeled by both male and female avatars, so again, I'm puzzled by her decision to tag it for any specific gender. (shrug) Whatever.

For what it's worth...my favorites are Calla, ETD and Diversity. I do agree that Robin's Hair is a good Primless option.

I don't have that particular style for DAZ (although I'm now drooling for it, thanksalot) but I can tell you this- the pics on the boxes do not usually look like that in the renders without a bit of postwork in Photoshop, for me, anyway. That one has an insane number of sliders, though. It may just live up to the dream. Anyway, I think the problems with doing an admittedly gorgeous style like that in SL would be all those conflicting grey bo- I mean alphas, so close together. They'd look horrible while rezzing, and they'd likely get dirty looks from lag-conscious residents. And everyone would buy them. I'd probably buy two.

I was very impressed (but very short of time!) with the first wall on the right at ETD, very first style especially. Will check out Robin's tonight.

Haha, thought so. No i havent seen anything like that in Sl. Sl hair looks real blocky and not flowy..no matter how flexi it is. Im guessing someone could do something similar if they could make similar textures...but even then....were working with prims. And i have never attempted hair so i cant really comment further.

I have long straight brown hair and I have stuck with the standard SL hair for the loose style and the head part of my own simple flexi ponytail or bun styles. Many of the places I go to are busy and it seems a lot of people with complex prim hair spend a lot of time appearing grey to others in busy places.
