Batao you are asking about a shape but you posted a picture of a head so I am guessing you mean a skin? They are two different things. You can make your own shape with a little practice and time but a skin is something you need to buy unless you have Photoshop and make your own.

If you want to know where that face came from it is anyone's guess as there are many many skin sellers in Second Life.

I think the skin is a custom from Second Skin Labs.

I believe that's the Charmed skin in Vapor from Celestial Studios.

No no, I meant shape, I am looking for something that style with the lips. I found Celestial Studios and actually bought the skin from there, but now I am looking for a shape similar to that. I realize it's only the head, but I figured I could go by that and then see what else the vendor had to offer.

I like the shapes they use for their models, I was actually hoping Celestial Studios sold shapes.

You could make those lips yourself you know... the whole thing.

I never saw the point of buying a shape, really. That's just my bias...

Also, the avatar in the photo may have made that herself.

Not everyone buys shapes.

Anyway, try product wanted forum, might help more.

A shape in isolation is pretty much a waste of L$, and I say that as a shape designer. The shape and skin go together to create a specific look, and what I sell is the time it took me to sort through dozens of skins and mold the shape into a character with personality. Not everyone has the patience, desire or technique to do that.

I used to say the same thing, but after 2 1/2 years of trying to get my face "just right" I threw my hands in the air and hired someone to do it for me. (I had a series of pictures I was targetting, but I just could NOT get it right.) The whole shebang including recommendations for hair, skin, and clothing to go with the new shape was dirt cheap in my book, and I'm thrilled with the outcome. (And oddly, it took more than tweaking a couple of sliders to get me where I was going. I would never have found the look I wanted on my own.)

If you're just trying to look good, OR targeting only a specific part of the body (like lips), however, you don't need a shape maker. Most of what I've seen from shape designers tends toward the comic book ideal and nothing approaching reality. (There are exceptions, of course.) IF, on the other hand, you're going for a full body and face shape (especially the face) and are looking for a specific look, hiring a shape maker can be of enormous benefit. It certainly saves a LOT of time.

In either case, I can't recommend buying an "off-the-shelf" shape. Why look like everyone else? Spring for custom and you won't be sorry.

If you just take one of the standard female avatar shapes - perhaps the 'girl next door' one, and adjust the sliders a little at a time, and just make subtle changes, you should get a realistic avatar quite similar to the one in your photo (in terms of shape)

My alt spent many hours (and a lot of fun) defining her shape. She used a freebie passport skin, one that is increasingly popular I see - bumped into a pair of them last night!

Well, she tired of the same skin as everyone else and hunted for something a little paler, a little sexier .. and freckles!! She's the happiest av in SL cos she found it and it didn't need one trim of a slider!

However, she got playful and in addition to her gorgeous mid-height redhead she played with the nightclub female to create a short but cuddly blonde and a tall slim brunette. Then she bought a make-up add-on which included all colours so thought 'hm, wonder what the blonde looks like with this skin.

Result? ... awful!! The standard skin with my rosy cheeks and eyebrows were far better than the as-is blonde make-up. When I get time I shall have a go tweaking the blondes shape to fit the skin .... It will be interesting to compare how difficult it will be to my previous 'find skin to fit shape' :)

I'm addicted to trying on new shapes with different skins. It's one of my favorite activities in SL, which is why I finally became a shape designer. I was going to do it anyway, so might as well share the results.

My inventory consists mostly of skin demos (and hair demos) and not much else! So as I develop a new shape, I spend a lot of time dropping skins on it just to see the effect. After awhile, I've even got a pretty good idea of which skins will give me the effect I want, but there are always surprises, too.

Hmm, got the urge again. Must - go - in - world... open - skin - closet...

I`m all for shapes, some people can not do it, dont want to spend the time, etc.

However i despise when people take .............Wait, i just realized this could be taken totally wrong, this has nothing to do with the OP, just something that came to my mind upon reading more replies...

Ahem

i really despise when people take a photo of someone they want to look like in world, and take it to a custom shop person and ask the creator to "make them look like this person" and the shap creator does it.

I think people need to ask permission before doing that.

Its been admitted 2 people have done that to me already..kinda sucks. esp when you worked hard on your own shape. =\

Its cool to want certain features of another avi you admire, but to try and look exactly like them? May as well contact them and ask if you can buy their shape, if they dont let you then leave it at that and get another look.

Also, about the photo....theres a freebie-like place... i cant remember the name, but they sell a bunch of shapes/skins and they have a shape that looks like the gurl6 chick with those lips..(lol)............... i know thats not of help since i dont recall the shop name... but if you could find it im sure itd be of great help.

I remain true to myself in SL and keep my shape, skin and hair more or less the same. I am happy with my looks, on the whole. I do wear my hair loose, or in a ponytail or sometimes a bun, but that's about as far as it goes. But I have lots of clothes and I do keep a version of my shape with slightly narrower hips just for use with skirts and dresses, to deal with the excessive poofiness of even tight-fitting ones!!

Having been complimented frequently on my figure, which is athletic rather than curvy, I wondered about offering it for sale, minus skin and hair and with slight alterations to facial details. But I would only sell it for about 50L$, so that people feel they got a shortcut in comparison to fiddling with the sliders themselves.

I'm curious how this works. Did you have to turn over your avi to this custom shape maker?

You make a good point here.

The only time I copy a shape is if someone I know fairly well has a no mod shape that they like - that they need to be mod.

Its never more than a 80% or so copy though since I have my own personal style, as Im sure most designers whove been doing it a while do.

Doing a generic request tho is easy "I want to be tall and thin like X person' well sure thats okay.

Copying someone else directly tho - kinda creepy. Thats why I dont sell my personal shape. I also never resell custom jobs.

I'm way too attached to my avatar to use a shape I didn't make myself. I have all kinds of things I'm not 100% happy with it, but I am happy that it's "me".

Using a bought shape is like making my avatar a chess piece or something.

Batao...Did you try contacting the skin maker?..I bot a skin from X2: Exotica last year and I really liked the look of the guy in her poster for the skin..I IM'ed her and asked if she could sell me the shape of the model..turned out the model was her sl boyfriend and she had made the shape for him but didn't want to sell it...understandably. She was very nice about it though..Bottom line...it doesn't hurt to ask the maker...

Agree with Ace. I couldn't be more disinterested in purchasing a shape. And can't really figure out why anyone would want to - but that's just me. Seems odd to just buy an avatar shape and go...it may save time but it's completely unoriginal.

Hiya Freckles! <wave>

Yep, I also agree with Ace. I don't think one of my avatars has escaped a twiddle of the sliders and just yesterday I spent a whole hour staying put at my little house tweaking, saving, tweaking again, resaving ...

If I completey agreed with you, I'd be out of business ;-) so I feel compelled to put in my two cents worth here.

Remember, we can use more than one avatar shape, so although someone may well put in a lot of personal effort for their main, they may not feel like doing so for an alt. Or they just may want the occasional change of pace (like a new hairstyle or outfit) that they can throw on for a specific location, role-play, occasion.

I've worked very hard on my "core" shape, but I'd happily buy an elf avatar or furry rather than take the time to make them myself because I'm simply not as invested in those alternate shapes and would only use them when visiting friends in certain areas of SL.

One of the reasons I decided to make the shapes I sell copy-enabled is that it encourages someone to use what I created as a starting point, with the option of tweaking toward a more individual look. Also, I include at least 3-4 texture photos of what that shape would look like with various skins, which makes a BIG difference in the final effect. So selecting a different skin from the one I chose for the marketing can take the shape a giant step away from the "unoriginal" base displayed on the box.

Once you add your own hair choices and clothing style, even the exact same shape may have a different impact.

[note - Firefox has stolen my apostrophe again....]

If I wear a wholly different avatar (for instance, I am a big fan of Wynx Whiplash's creativity) then the "shape" comes with the whole avatar.

I can see your point about giving your customers a starting point to work from...and yes, I see your point about alts too. Overall though, I still don't "get" the just buying only a shape and then "yay, I have my avatar" kind of thing. Dunno, maybe I have seen too many clones from the really popular ones.

I did come across a really good shape shop the other day in Imogen. The shape designers had all their shapes as mod and also recommended what skins worked with what shapes. Actually, the whole store was really appealing and well done so it made me look very closely. While it still wouldn't be my choice for my main (or even my alt), I do see your point :)
