Maybe when it says "account available" it's referring to the email address?

There should only be one http://www.avatarsunited.com/avatars/veritable-quandry though.

Now instead of doing what I need to be doing, I need to be chasing down this.
Perhaps it would be better to simply send out notices and update the covenant to state that "AU groups and avatars with the same names as inworld Caledon management entities are not affiliated with Caledon management in any way. All communication with Caledon management must be done inworld or via email to the following well-known addresses: nnnn"

Until/unless LL creates a new type of AU account locked to SL identities, chasing imposters will be a never-ending task.

Yep. The impostor has a "-2" at the end, while my Blue Mars account has "-blue-mars" added.

Should permission be required? I don't think so - not for an estate residents group.

Sure it should. Only current residents in good standing should have access to the group - just like in Second Life.

If a few estate residents decide they want a group to discuss estate things, they can do it - they don't need the permission of the estate owner.

They can discuss without using the name of the estate when forming their group. The estate name belongs to the landlord - not the renters.

That's a thought that hadn't occured to me.

A couple of thoughts from my view as someone who has no intention of going near this thing. First, do you think this spoofing of names is being done with possible intent to extort or sell people their avatar names? Also, since this "thing" belongs to LL now, will the same TOS as the Blogorama apply. Will they hang the same ban hammer over everyones heads on AU?

I can't say I'm surprised, nor disappointed even that AU is a POS right now, it's par. But a lot of you guys were willing to give it a chance and once again LL failed to deliver.

Before all this spoofing info hit, one reason I went was to be sure no one got my name. I'm sure the spoofers are just malicious people that think they are being amusing, at least, they are amusing themselves. I'm just appalled that it's allowed. I know that sounds really prissy but I really am.......(and, who knows what the intent is, I feel it's just done to annoy.....(the spoofing).

1. Homestead tier hike in June, to the tune of 30 bucks a month x our 21 homesteads. Imagine 10 going vacant. 125/month times ten is 1250 USD/month. For that kind of money I think I'd rather buy my teenager a Ferrari.

I'm not convinced this will happen, I was more certain last year they wouldn't do it, but Jack has been extremely evasive on this subject.

4. Something changing that I cannot disclose, but it's item #4 and pretty significant.

This on the other hand is worrisome.

What does LL have to do with buying children sportscars? I would be worried as well...most teenagers will horribly mangle a manual transmission. I would be willing to trade them for my much safer and more practical MGB.

I'm a little disappointed, I'll tell you. Not a SINGLE person has tried to pretend to be me on AU. :(

I'm sure if they just understood how very IMPORTANT I am . . . !

I don't know if that's better or worse than me pretending to be myself on AU.

If only the announcement weren't made until things were tied to our real accounts.
They had to announce, the acquisition is a matter of public record and someone would have gleefully outed it soon. However, they could have done it in such a way as not to declare open season. For example, M could have said:

"AU is currently in beta and we'll be helping them decide how best to integrate to SL more tightly. Definitely give it a try so you can give us some ideas!

I wanted to alert you to one big difference between AU and SL -- AU currently uses email addresses to uniquely identify accounts, NOT avatar names. So, it's quite possible for 20 different people to have an account named "M Linden"! Messages and friendship requests you receive from any of the 20 M's will all appear to be from "M Linden". This is useful on a lightly-used social networking site designed to pull together all an avatar's social interaction from multiple worlds, but difficult for SL users.

I'll be on AU on and off for the next days. Give it a test drive, friend me or T Linden, give me a shoutout! Post your thoughts on where to take it from here, and have fun!"

Sigh. Why do I bother.

I don't see how you can address "safety" when there is no verification of avatar names. There is no safety. Period.

HEHEHEHE! Going in 2 weeks. But seriously, this is the first I have ever heard of it. Admittedly, I have not been inworld too much lately. Will hasn't said anything about it either. I wonder if he knows about it too?

Actually, there are already three. Here's what one says, for example:

I created the groups I care about yesterday, and in fact, advised a couple of friends to create their groups too. Even if you don't plan to use them. Also, you can set the group posting rules, privacy settings, etc. Just sayin...

How do you create a group in AU?

The real 'me' was locked down private with no friend accepting possible. There won't be a Caledon group there either, until it's linkable to the inworld group.

Crap. I got scammed. Logging on to AU to leave the Caledon Group with Desmond Shang as a member...
