Weight and Bodyfat Verification in Second Life Sunday, May 6th, 2007 at 4:25 PM PDT by: jennycraiglinden We will shortly begin beta testing a weight and bodyfat verification system, which will allow Residents to provide a one-time proof of their weight (such as a driver’s license, passport photo or Weight Watchers membership card) and have that weight verified in a matter of moments.
Second Life has always been restricted to those over 280 pounds. All Residents personally assert their weight on registration. When we receive reports of obese Residents in Second Life, we close their account until they provide us with proof of diet plan. This system works well, but as the community grows and grow and grows around the mid-section, and the restaurants of Second Life become more widely known, we’ve decided to add an additional layer of protection as residents add additional layers of fat.
Once the weight verification system is in place, only those Residents with verified weights will be able to access snack content in Mature areas. Any Resident wishing to access buffet sims will have to prove they are under 280 pounds in real life. We have created Teen Second Life for minors under the weight of 180. Access to TSL by adults is prohibited, with minors not allowed into the rest of Second Life unless they can prove they had less than 1000 calories in their past two meals.
For their part, land owners will be required to flag their land as 'high carb’ if it contains french fries or milkshakes using the estate and land management tools provided to landowners. This flag will protect landowners from displaying inappropriate Happy Meals to binging users who may have entered Second Life. Landowners are morally and legally responsible for the food displayed and the all-you-can-eat taco fiestas taking place on their land. The bodyfat verification system gives them new tools to ensure any buffet content is only available to adults under 280 pounds because unskinny avatars will not have access to land flagged as containing Little Debbie snack cakes.
We hope you’ll agree that the small inconvenience of doing this once is far outweighed (hehe) by the benefits of protecting lardos from inappropriate sandwiches. Further, this system will assist landowners in engaging in lawful ice cream parties.
The verification system will be run by a third party specializing in weight and body fat authentication. No personally identifying information will be stored by them or by Linden Lab, including dress sizes, unless the Resident chooses to do so. Those who wish to be weighed, but remain anonymous, are free to do so. --- Dammit, when will this madness end!!!!??????

Wait, does this mean you have to be above or below 280 lb to play SL?

As one learned in the metric system, I find this entire stipulation insulting and I am going to have an open letter to force LL to do everthing in metric. It figures, the inconsistancy of building tools being in metres yet this new weight restriction in pounds. They shall not pursure this matter until everything is metric. I will not tolerate such actions. Oh, I do not like the x,y,z axis rotation in degrees either, it should be in radians. And, I want LL to do all financial transactions in Euros, not dollars. IF I can think of anything else I personally think should be changed, I will certainly complain about it here, especially if it is to my adavantage.

All that and the weigh-ins are being conducted at a non-Euro friendly time of day. Can't we just use fathoms, furlongs, stones, paces, chains, firkens, cubits, knogenheads, and so forth? Those days were so much easier..

Anyone know the conversion factor for cm/sec into furlongs/fortnight? I have an old game I want to reprogram.

OMG - I'm in a high carb sim but I run the Size Zero Salad Bar. I'm next to a huge McDonuts. Does this mean I will be legally responsible if an unweighed resi comes to my salad bar and uses cam controls to sneak a Fatty Meal from McDonuts? Nice one, Raymond. LOL

...and what good fruit it is!
A futile attempt to revive funny threads for a request about the most funnest threads may as well lock this one too.

Egads, this is not the time to revive one of my parody threads. I am currently on double secret probation for a much less funny thread posted by my alt.

From: yeeck Brickworks is this real? lol.... Absolutely! This isn't one of those lighter threads, but a heavyweight discussion. It requires some weighty thought before contributing. We must all weigh up the pros and cons very carefully and and weight, I mean wait, and see what happens. The chances of this thread NOT being locked in the near future are slim I suspect, and there's a fat chance of its running much longer.

All of these huge double meanings made me laugh off so many calories, my head feels light. It was a large helping of heavy humor, and I thoroughly enjoyed it as much as I enjoy a good cheesecake. If people respond to this thread too much, it'll get too large and be locked. Please eat your ideas and withhold from posting them!

I fail to understand all these flippant remarks about a very heavy and serious issue. There is a serious point to the introduction of the BMI verification. Allow me to explain the history behind this enhancement: As a sim owner I can confirm that overweight residents do cause a number of problems. The most serious issues are: 1. Breakage of lucky chairs due to excess weight 2. Taking up more than one spot on a camping chair/sofa due to buttock spread and most seriously 3. Severe lag due to the amount of Physics required to move them. If you find this unbeliveable I suggest you do a crtl-shift-1 and look at the sim stat's on any sim. Most important of these stat's is the FPS (Fat People Scoffing). If this is greater than 40 then you have a problem. The official 'SIM Owners Manual' refers to this as the 'Wobble factor' and suggests that the Estate manager invokes the 'Quake' mode. The effect of the quake mode is to set-up a small land tremor across the sim causing the more generously proportioned members of the community to 'wobble' violently and emit a loud slapping noise. By utilising the 'Get top colliders' feature from the Estate menu one can then identify those with excess tyres. Problem is that due to a yet to be cured bug the violent wobbling and slapping is not limited to only the FPS culprits but also to the more 'well-endowed' members of the male and female community. In view of this oversight it was decided to introduce the verification system.
I hope this clarifies the reasons behind this enhancment

I have just arrived at work and opened up this thread and I must thank the OP for putting a smile on my face at the start of the day. I can see i will be grinning to myself as certain workmates come and go. )
