Did you get Lindens from any other source than the Lindex?

Barbara, did you purchase lindens from an unapproved source (like eBay) recently? That would explain both the temporary suspension of your account and the disappearing money.

If LL believes the person you bought lindens from obtained them illegally (such as through credit card fraud), they will take the lindens away from you AND sometimes penalize you an extra 50%. And you will probably not get the money spent buying the lindens back from the seller, as they are specifically trying to steal your money.

If you did NOT buy lindens on eBay, then disregard this post. ;)

OMG!

YES, i did buy it from an eBay seller - but had no clue that this could be a problem. He seemed to be an approved source though. Is buying linden$ from eBay generelly a problem?

I remember that the lindens payment system didnt worked (neither 2 creditcards nor paypal where accepted) thats why I went to ebay...

How can I prove that i'm not guilty at all and what to now? Why do they not contact me, I would hand over the eBay sellers name!!!

Thanks

Please, quickly, before your accepted and valid payment option is b0rked and your premium account is terminated, vote for https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/WEB-162.

Note that billing support tickets seem not be be processing at all now; presumably the queue is growing much faster than it's being worked. Nonetheless, if you get in an urgent situation (negative L$ or US$ balances), file a ticket anyway. It may not save your account, but at least you'll have a record.

If you need to buy L$, a safe place to do it (aside from the LL's exchange) is Second Life Exchange. Usually they have a slightly better exchange rate also.

As to your lost Linden's, I don't have a clue. At least it seems they didn't hit you with the fine.

Hi, it would be very nice if an "official" would reply something to my post!
... or tell me where I can find an official who is able to give me some information!

There are tons of eBay merchants selling Linden$ - I was lucky since I bought "only" 20.000! Offers go up to 100.000 - 1.000.000!
Am I the only one? Does anybody know other people with the same complaints?

@Jannae Karas: I am hit by the fines. If my account stays at -5000 my char is dead...
or did I get u wrong?

PLEASE LINDENS HELP BARBARA SURVIVE!!!

Thanks in advance,
Barbara

is there a sign we can post in this forum or something dont buy from ebay? This is where stolen lindens get sold these days so they tend to confiscate em. Sites that sell lindens in second life have a risk API and are approved after a fashion there are also some gaming sites that have not encorporated the risk API those sites are no no's

so yes if the Lindens are stolen they trace em and take em back

tell all your friends and tell them to tell their friends and shout it from the rooftops dont buy lindens on ebay lol

:(

In fact this is being seen to often these days i think i'm gonna put a few dozen signs up on my lot :(

the lindens were stolen so technically though you paid for them they weren't yours or his they belonged to some other guy so you wont get them back and you wont get your money back either if he is selling stolen lindens

Sorry to say buty our money is gone and if you accuont is suspended its ilkely they are busy trying to find the "stolen lindens tap" so email them and send them the link to the auction via the billing portal I would think? and hope they turn it back on soon

:(

p.s. to get an official response you have to mail them lindens dont post often here

A negative L$ amount does not make your character 'dead,' it only means you can't make any purchases until you pay it back. If LL reopened your account, they don't believe you're directly involved in the fraudulent activity...the fine is to offset the time and effort they've put into resolving the issue, as well as any fines that may in turn be levied against them.

The Lindens rarely read these forums, so this isn't the place to get an official response.

Thanks for ur msg, I am finally realizing that my money is gone..
My account is enabled, so I could go on playing...

The problem is: I dare to know what happened!

SL is all digital - they know who gave me the money, and if it is from a stolen credit card they can to proove it and show it to me. I could go to eBay and perhaps get my money back.

This behavior makes me go nuts:
You have 1.000.000 Linden$ on ur account - great we confiscate it, its bogus (but won't tell you why)

Hello any Linden hearing me: I don't have a technical problem or want my avatar to be nicer!
You have my 1stLife money and I wont give it to you without complaining!!!

PayPal won't reimburse for virtual goods.

Theer is only one reason for them to confiscate lindens and that if its stolen either you stole it or bought stolen lindens.

If your account is turned on you are not found as the actual theif and your fine basically you need to get lindens from a different source and take the loss.

uuuhm? Sorry I am german, 39, and a woman, perhaps thats why I am _not_ used to just "accept it, and go on".

If the SecondLife Payment System accepted a stolen credit card then it is a Linden's Lab problem not mine!

I bought from 2 sources: a private player and a global dealer that sells for all major virtual games. I dont believe that they cheat! (the first is just a private person without the knowledge of credit card fraud, the other will loose their business if cheating)

At the moment my logical conclusion can only go in one direction:
Linden Labs systematically punishes everybody who is buying Linden$ (for a much better exchange rate) outside the Linden's financial systems!!!

Unless Linden Labs prooves me that the dealers where I bought the Linden$ are scammers I will in turn call Linden Labs "Thief of my money"!

The Lindex is NOT the only place you are permitted to purchase funds, Linden Labs simply requires us to use approved sites to buy Lindens...a currency which they invented and therefore control. For example, the SL Exchange is an independently run site, but they've gone through Linden Labs' Risk API process, which was developed to minimize fraudulent activity. Buy from anyone who isn't approved and you take your chances.

I almost started buying lindens from third party like ebay, but I did a little due diligence and found that Linden Labs is very strict about these kinds of transactions. They will fine you 150% of whatever amount you bought.

I'm sorry about your loss, but if the offer seems too good to be true, it probably is.

okay gender is irrelevant here and so is age and whatnot and i'm not even sure why you brought that up?

are you saying i'm a dumb male? if is so I would say you have absolutely NO idea what your talking about and I wont go farther then that.

also i'm 43 so if your using age as a landmark among other things again this is not the issue

in real life when you have something and buy it and its stolen are are caught with it what happens? Its hot merchandise and you buy it ona black market and its stolen. Do the police give it back or return it to its righful owner?

One guess allowed here?

When it comes to purchasing lindens here this is not part of "the game" its real life you have gone onto the internet and purchased stolen goods the company has a right to take it back and give it to the person it was stolen from its not yours to have. You may have made an error out of ignorance however the fact is you bought stolen goods!

Your mistake was made when you didn't go and find out where you could legally buy lindens that were not stolen!

We also ahve people cometo this forum daily asking where to buy safe lindens and in your case i would tell you to use search because your attitude is kind of wrong but i answered the question twice yesterday and gave them a list I challenge you to use your head and use it.

Sorry, missed the minus sign in front of the 5,000. I assumed you bought a 10k block and they took that. Did they email you about the incident? There was a similiar thread a short time ago, and I thought that the poster had been contacted by LL to explain the siezure of funds.

I think he said his spam filter ate it, though, so he didn't find it until he went looking.

okay hehe you just answered right after me so :)

the fact it the money is stolen and we have told you such if you want an answer from Linden labs you need to ask Linden labs hehe we are just the community.

Your money is gone you bought from an unsafe source
there are 3 places and counting of safe sources on top of the Linden Labs lindex (so that's 4 total)

Slsmart.com
http://dreamland.anshechung.com/index.php?fct=BUY_L$
Slexchange.com

the best rates though are on the Lindex here from linden labs and I have never used a third party site as I could always get lindens here from linden labs.

The have not scammed you a scammer scammed you not much else can be done about that you bought something from an unreliable source at probably a really great price. If the price is too good to be true that means its likely stolen because lindens cost money and the rates for them are pretty stable so i fyour getting twice as much or 3 times as much for the same rate your buying stolen lindens no doubt about it.

stay away from ebay and any other third party sites not on that list

Yes your beef is with ebay not Linden labs hopefully you get the money back however if its gone from his account because its not frozen you may not. Ebay is a pretty bad place for scams and honestly I have many friends scammed there for various things.

I would suggest you read a bit more before jumping in next time read the fine print. Linden labs has no control over ebay
