No, WoW doesn't have native Voice, but while I find using Ventrilo works well for a team of friends, we tend to ignore others a lot. :)

In fact, I think events hosted only in voice could offer a translator of sorts to type out everything that is being said. (Fast typers, maybe volunteers or paid residents)

Quite an interesting idea GayBot. Actually, I suspect there may be a number of new vocation opportunities opened up by voice usage.

I think it will be interesting to see if voice usage creates any sort of 'language barrier' between existing and new residents. I expect most new players will use the voice functionality because it is available by default, and will be quite surprised when they move from introductory areas to areas populated by older residents only to find that they are all texters rather than talkers.

LOL - this is a total impractical solution to an on/off switch

I think you were trying to be helpful. Please remember detailed technical descriptions on how to do something that should be an "on/off" button do not count as (your words) "easy enough"

I never said it was practical. This is a viable method for dealing with a potential "feature" in case LL does not give us that "On/Off" switch by default, in case someone still wishes to hear the internal SL sounds or streaming music etc. Besides, if LL does not give us the ability to turn it off and on by default, I am sure someone will be able to slap together a VB application that can handle the on/off part with a cute button.

Not trying to be helpful, just presenting an alternate "On/Off" solution to something that most likely will not happen.

Someone told me the other day they think SL is going to turn into Counter Strike Source because of this.
