If you leave without saying anything, there won't be a 'chosen few has left' message. So no worries about appearing rude.

Actually, with the new group changes in 1.12, this is no longer accurate.

The 'Owner' of the group receives a message any time a member leaves the group. Trust me, my mailbox is full of them :D

Good to know, I also was concerned I would appear rude.

Despite the fact that the Owner receives messages of your departure, I wouldn't worry about it being considered rude. When I see "So & So has left the group" messages, I just assume that someone just needed to free up some group slots.

If I see a bunch of these message all around the same timeframe, I tend to investigate a little more, and check to see if someone might have abused our group channel with spam while I was offline.

Travis, I think they were referring to the whole conversation, which meant leaving as in Xing out of the group IM without saying anything.

It used to spam, even if you didn't say anything 'Babydoll has left the chat.' Regardless of whether you spoke or not. Now, if you don't say anything and you x out of that particular IM, you get no spam.

Hooray!

Was a "mute" ever made? I recently had to leave a group because people just wouldn't shut up. I'd open the IM and see that same group - close that IM window (close that session) and up would pop another "IM received" or whatever the wording is, and lo and behold it is that same stupid group. The only "muting" I was able to find was to leave that group. Am I missing something? Has something been created in the year plus since this thread was started? Or since the last thread that asked this question (last week, last month, last hour)?

I know that the new Windlight viewer now has an option to check or uncheck a box that will allow you to receive or not receive group notices, but group notices are not the same as group IM's.

The only way to mute it is to go into busy mode.

Thank-you. I have been reading the old threads. That is how I spotted the mention of the author of the first locked thread in a recent thread (think it had something to do with making sitting in lap pose - the recent thread, the old thread asked to make out).

If it's a group you just want announcements and no chat, sign up with an alt and enable IM's to email so you'll get the announcements via email.
