So all the various threads about banks and wagering and whatnot over the last fortnight got me thinking. Then this morning it all culminated into a brilliant inspiration for a wonderful new Investment fund / system. I would call it the Second Life Ontario Trust System (I live in Ontario, so just a shout-out to my locale). It wouldn't guarantee an interest rate, but it would have the *possibility* of high returns (as high as 1000% even!) and it would be almost instant returns, if your investment happened to pay off. The way it would work is, I'd build a bunch of ATM machines for the S.L.O.T. system, and these S.L.O.T. instant tellers could be placed around the grid. People could then deposit, say, L$20 into the nearest convenient S.L.O.T. bank machine and then click the "Invest" button. Their deposit would then be instantly invested into one of the hundreds of opaque high-risk non-disclosed RL investments that I would have set up around the world. Within about 20 or 30 seconds, the super-high-risk investment either pays back big interest, or the investment fails and the investor maybe gets back all or part of their deposit, or maybe it just dies and they've lost their deposit. But! if you want those high-returns, you have to accept some high risks, right? Anyhow, the whole concept is a week or two away, I've just had the inspiration this morning and it'll take me some time to do the coding for the S.L.O.T. instant tellers and create the off-world instant investment protocols et cetera. Still, I think this may be a winner! So my question is: do folks think this would be a good idea, and would you trust me with your L$20?? -Atashi p.s. Apologies! Just some friday craziness coming over me...long weekend jitters.

It's a great idea! In fact, I'm so enthusiastic I'll volunteer my services to do the scripting.
You're welcome.

Ile cherries and clovers and stuff?
then when you get three of the same one you know your investment paid off?

Sounds like a great idea, except that the RL investments (what he or she is spending all this newfound $ on) is supposed to be opaque. Wouldn't be too terribly opaque if it had women and booze symbols, or.... .

Great idea and you could place these machines in
Cash Activated Securities & INvestment Organizations or C.A.S.IN.O's

And there could be a walk-in center where the tellers would be part of the Professional Office Legal Employee union and you deposit into their convenient semi-transparent balls. Just love their cute uniforms

I think this might A) be seen as internet gambling B) be beset by glitches and crashes C) lose money all round and D) be open to abuse since the operator could simply pocket most of the L$ 20 payments without investing them and just payout a few to make it look real. I think this idea is a total non-starter. To be frank, I think it's the worst suggestion I've ever seen for a new idea in SL! Sorry!

Wait a second, maybe there's some misunderstanding! I'm not talking about "gambling". I'm talking about a high risk, potentially high return, short term investment fund. I don't want to use the word 'bank' because there's no regulation or government per se here in Second Life, and there is no guaranteed rate of interest or return. If people somehow mistake the concept of putting their L$ into an opaque, unregulated, nondisclosed, high-risk / potential high-return investment fund with "gambling" then that's just a simple misunderstanding. But seriously, anyone who still hasn't fully grasped my "brilliant new investment idea" should grab their nearest dictionary and look up the word "satire". And, just to be sure everyone understands where I'm coming from - more smilies: -Atashi p.s. If links were working I'd post a link like this one, and save folks a trip to their dictionary: http://www.cs.chalmers.se/~hallgren/wget.cgi?satire

Hmm new thing to do with casino scripts turn them into ATMs and call them investment systems. Very clever. You might get paid back, you might not get paid at all. How about just send me your lindens invest in unappreciated creative person who is having hard time? I would love to recieve some investment gifts in thousands of Lindens. Please send me money. I promise I send you something in return. It will have to be creations I have or will someday make. You'll be also getting back my love and adoration for enternity.

Hey I know it was joke but seriously why not invest in me? You'll get back a whole lot more then any investment scheme like friendship, being appreciated and valued. But nah I guess that wouldn't be profitable in investing in your local newbie artist.
