A few days ago, I was surprised . . . nay astonished . . . to find a partnership proposal in my account information. From Eva Tiramisu.

I was not online when Eva discussed this here in the forum. My responses to receiving this were, to the say the least, complex. I was flattered, I was charmed, and, of course, I was amused (the latter being, I think, the intended reaction :) )

And I gave it some thought.

Eva, thank you for making me smile, and for making me laugh. This is too private an affair for me to respond publicly . . . but please accept the following fragment (cribbed from a poem by Katherine Philips) as a token of my warmest regards.

This, this is Friendship, that abstracted flame
Which grovelling mortals know not how to name.
All Love is sacred, and the marriage-tie
Hath much of honour and divinity.
But Lust, Design, or some unworthy ends
May mingle there, which are despis'd by Friends.
Passion hath violent extremes, and thus
All oppositions are contiguous.
So when the end is serv'd their Love will bate,
If Friendship make it not more fortunate:
Friendship, that Love's elixir, that pure fire
Which burns the clearer 'cause it burns the higher.

Scylla

LOL :p

Well, I'm always looking for the right man . . . or woman! The world, RL and SL, is full of the "right people": smart, loving, funny . . . whatever. They sustain me.

One day I might well find the ULTIMATE "right man" . . . That would be very cool, but in the meantime, I'll happily make do with the lovely people, like yourself, that I have available now. :)

ETA: Hope the neighbours have calmed down!

Though I feel like an unwilling evesdropper reading this thread , I am curious about the name of the poem above. It does not seem to be part of "To my Excellent Lucasia, on our Friendship" as one might expect.

Weston, you are a multi-dimensional pooch. :)

The poem is entitled (surprisingly) "Friendship," and begins: "Let the dull brutish World that know not Love, / Continue heretics, and disapprove . . ."

I wish I knew the poetry of The Matchless Orinda better than I do; one tends, nowadays, to focus on Margaret Cavendish and Aphra Behn instead, which is a shame, in a way. I do have selections from her poems in my bookstore, though.

WHEW... I saw the title "To Eva" and thought it was for me. Fortunantly, it wasn't...as I'm already partnered.

Just think of what we can accolplish. You can lure them in with your charm and wit, then bore them with your commie/leftist manifesto and as their eyes glaze over, I'll grab their wallets.

Bore them? Nonsense! That glassy-eyed look just demonstrates how RAPT they are . . . especially when I launch into my detailed explication of dialectical materialism . . .

Think it would work better if I set up a dance pole in the seminar room?

That might actually work, I mean the lecture, not the dance pole, although that would probably work too. You can lecture them on the evils of materialism, maybe while dancing on the pole, and they'll gladly hand over their wallets.

Surely that would depend upon how good my dancing is?

Naw, your dancing can suck, long as you got your emote on.... :o (no feminist lectures while on the pole.)

ETA: I learned that from listening to Lindal. :D

And just she has to learn just the right timing for removing the next article of clothing in order to milk the most money out of the people attending the "lecture"

"It was Anne Koedt who first exploded 'The Myth of the Vaginal Orgasm' in a seminal paper published in 1970 . . ."

/me bends slowly over, and with the lightest flick of her index finger, sends one shoe soaring into the air . . .

"Koedt's polemical theme was two-fold. On the one hand, the paper addresses specifically and in some detail the connection of the notion of female 'frigidity' to mislocations of the site of the female orgasm in the vagina, an error in which Freud is particular implicated . . ."

/me grasps the pole firmly in both hands, and tilting her head back, embraces it with her stockinged thighs, sliding slowly to the ground as she as she moans softly . . .

"On a more general, and ultimately more important level, Koedt wished to expose the prevalence of myths about female sexuality in Western culture in general . . ."

. . .

:D

Now MY eyes are glazing over.

*sigh*

It is with some reluctance that I announce the cancellation of the lecture series "Female Sexuality and the Third Wave Feminist," originally scheduled for Monday nights at Pinky's Porno and Pole Prancing Paradise.

Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience that this may cause.
