Panjen, Nomine, Gala, and Naughty are the only four I can recommend, do to my limited exposure to shopping for a female skin. (The missus likes to change skins every once in a while. In the order I named them....
Panjen - Nice selection with a few fantasy skins for sale as well. Detailed enough to be quite pretty, but not what one would call close to photo realistic. Prices are 350L if I'm not mistaken. Nomine - Where I got my skin, and where the wifey got her current one. She's recently upgraded her female skin line to afford more diversity in skin tones and such. The also come with a nice variety of make-ups and such. Individual skins are 700L I believe. Her fantasy line costs 700L to 1000L if I'm not mistaken. Gala - Much like Nomine, Gala offers a tremendous selection of make ups in several different skin tones. The range of tones isn't as "good" (I tend to define good as China White Goth to Dark African Prince/Princess), but the amount of available make-up is quite impressive. Also, some skins come with little nuances like freckles and what have you. Maggie's previous two skins came from there. Naughty - Not much experience with the Naughty ones as we were only looking at them before we went with a Nomine skin. From what I saw of the demos though, very quality work with a nice range of make up and skin tones. Worth checking out at the very least. Maggie says to also check out DNA, RAC, Wilted Rose, and Canimal. _____________________

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things. Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut. |

I recommend Gala as well but everyone has a preference... Almost every skin shop sells demo skins. Try them on yourself and decide which one you like best.

A bump for Tete A Pied (see Roslin Petion's or CJ Carnot's profile picks for a landmark). Hand-drawn, lovely skins, a good variety of skin tones including Asiatique, and lots of makeup options from completely bare face to exotic to Betty Page-style.

I use Sin Skins, although Gala and Nomine are also very good.

I tried the demo at X but I didn't like it. It was too ashy looking.

Naughty Designs. There are a lot of nice skins out there, but Naughty is one of the better detailed skinstores out there. I've found they look great with most shapes, and tattoo's look fantastic on them. Celestial are also nice, and if you are looking for cheap skins Canimal makes decent skins.

I nominate Panjen, Chip Midnight, and Nomine.
Two of them have made custom skins for me. _____________________

I've tried various demo skins over the months but so far I haven't found an improvement on my CS Passport Malibu skin, which was a freebie. I dare say there are better skins but I haven't found one yet.
Presumably this is the Celestial Studio one mentioned above. |

CS, SinSkin..many others
05-26-2007 07:19
I am a skin-a-holic and I have many many skins. There are some freebie skins that are just as good, if not better than some of the $1000+L many of us shell out.
CS Malibu skin is great, I wear that one a lot. I LOVE Tete a Pied skins as well....not partial to the freckled ones, but the darker tanned ones are awesome. SinSkin fresh sol is another one that I think is just very pretty. I think one of my favorites is GALA. Something about them just seems so pretty and feminine. I think it is mostly a personal preference and what you like. Have fun finding a new you ![]() |

I agree, I got my Alina skin there and it looks really good on the shape i have. Before that I used the Malibu skin as well which is decent if you don't want to spent money on a good skin yet. |

I like my Pixel Deep skin. It lets you adjust the tone a bit with the appearence sliders and comes with a few different make-ups (unlike the Calla which is also very good but you buy one make-up per skin or the very expensive bundles.) Also Pixel deep sells additional make-ups for each skin tone. It a pretty good way to move into a more premium skin, but not have to spend buckets of L$ for some versitility.
Good Luck! _____________________

Skin shopping exhaustion
05-26-2007 08:27
You might want to check out the Second life Fashionista blog. She has done several articles comparing skins. She also has a tutorial on applying prim eyelashes, whuich frankly, I found too exhausting to attempt myself. I like the look of the naughty parts on my new Vogue Skin, so dont forget about that when choosing, if you like to do naughty things.
Skin shopping is exhausting, so dont attempt if not in a patient mood or you will waste big $$$ (at least that's what happened to me). |

This blog has lots of info on skins. I was also going to add, I got my Vogue skin at Celestial Studios. I settled on Amber (Red-Mid) because I really wanted red lips. Also , I LOVE my Asian skin from Nyte n Day! I think I look beautiful in that skin and I never see anyone else wearing it. Hope this helps. RaC for me, too. They're expensive, but well worth it. I shopped for a long time, but I wanted something that looked somewhat realistic. RaC had the best, by far. When I friend started, I helped her shop for a skin, too. RaC was still the best we found. If you can't afford them, though, there are other really nice ones out there and most have been suggested on this thread. Good luck, and remember, try the demos before you buy.

Just to mention, shape has a LOT to do with how a skin looks on you. Many of the skins other people absolutely love and have mentioned here look horrible on my av...like, run screaming from the shop never to return, horrible. Others just don't fit my personal preferences. I want a strong brow and understated blush, decent girly parts, defined but not overly done other parts, very fair skin tone, and nothing super photorealistic. Celestial Studios (aka, CS) is what I wear the majority of the time, both the Vogue and Charmed lines, but I also own some Nomine, Nora, and Sin skins. My (long and rambling) point is, before you invest, get out there and try demos until you want to vomit; figure out what you like and what you don't, what you can live with (because no skin is perfect), and also what you're willing to spend. I average about 1000L/skin, give or take a little, and that seems to cover most of the market...I would never pay more than 1500L for a single skin. Oh, and when you're ready to buy, don't overlook multi-packs if you have the funds and like all the makeups in them; they're a bigger initial expenditure, but the per skin price is usually at least 10% less.
Also, people have mentioned the Secondstyle Fashionista site, but I find Linden Lifestyles' reviews far more detailed. http://lindenlifestyles.com/ You can choose skins from the column on the right. _____________________

After deciding I didn't want a skin with lots of makeup (especially dark eye shadow), I did a search in here and found a thread from earlier in the year with lots of good links. However, the thread was specific to skins without much (or any) makeup.
If that's your preference, from shopping around, I ended up with the Tete a Pied skin with almost 0 makeup and freckles. I compromised a little and had to adjust my AV's face to make the skin look a little more like I wanted it, but it came out simply great. Another vote for Chip Midnight's skins, too, by the way (though the TaP skin is the only on I have so far). |

I got my current skin from a new shop named Tuli and it's the best, for me, that I have found so far and is less than $1000. As someone else pointed out, skins look different on each person depending on their body shape and their hair so what looks good on me may look terrible on another person. If you are petite and don't like the slutty look go check out Tuli.
