While trying to buy Lindens, I get this error message and it's getting annoying!

We are unable to complete your request. The system encountered an error while processing your order, please try again.
Does anyone else have this problem? And yes, there's plenty of money on my cc.

I get it occasionally. Sometimes the transaction goes through anyway, usually after a restart, the Lindens will be in my account. Did you try buying them off the website?

Yup, that's where I got the message. Buying inworld gives me an error too. I used my cc today and it works fine so I guess another glitch?

Sadly this isn't a new error. It is discussed on the blog section, although about to drop of the page. Originally LL claimed it was an issue with Paypal transactions but after fixing that the error described has filled its place. I entered a support ticket on it on June 19th... 15 days and I do not anticipate it getting fixed soon.

No, but a suggestion...use SLX. That's what I do when the Lindex is being uncooperative.

I was just able to buy off Lindex on the site here. I have my account linked directly to my debit card instead of PayPal.

I just did the same... used my debit card as my method of payment instead of my Paypal account. As luck would have it I was able to buy $L's for the first time in three weeks.

Giving LL CC/DC information direclty is a bad idea....
07-03-2007 08:41
And now, LL, who can't find their ass with both hands and think Customer Service is a dirty word have direct access to your CC/DC information... This should not be a comforting thought to you. Especially when you consider that the massive problems which cropped up about a month ago were and are likely due to a hacking of SL

Well... a valid point. I suppose now that I deleted Paypal as my preferred payment method and replaced it with my card, finally have been able to purchase my L's, it might not be a bad idea to delete the debit card info and re-place the paypal info again... I guess its too late, because LL will no doubt maintain the CC info for history information so in the event of a hack its still subject...

Good news is the account the DC is attached to is a 'fun money' account and a loss of any funds would not be 'household threatening'.

I wouldn't worry...I'm sure they can't even figure out how to steal properly.

Yup. That's why I have a dedicated Debit Card for online stuff. I transfer funds there (at no fees thanks to my banking setup) when I want to use it. That way, it doesn't matter if LL screws up. A thief can't steal what isn't there.

Ann: PayPal is just FINE... I've used it three times to make purchases both from businesses and auctions since LL proclaimed them "at fault" for the problems. PayPal isn't "jacked up", LL is.

Brenda: I wouldn't really be worried about LL stealing anything, either, since, as you say, they just aren't that bright... it's the other people that their incompetence and outright lack of care allow to access customer information. Remember when the "age verification" first came up and who they had chosen as a third party to conduct that little fiasco in the making? Now this billing issue that is (now clearly to everyone except LL) brought on by their use of a UK third party billing agent who is applying the UK PayPal and credit/debit/bank card rules to ALL customers, UK based or not... and all the while, LL sits around collecting what "fees" they can, getting the remaining customers to pay through the nose to beta test their latest Swiss cheese code... and taking vacations, throwing inworld birthday parties they themselves can't even attend...

If ever there was a time for a vote of "NO CONFIDENCE", it was a month ago... now, it's just like playing Russian roulette with your personal information, and that's NOT even assuming a hack, that's just from piss poor business practices. Imagine the damage a real hacker could do... and they'd probably hire him/her afterwards...

Jessica: That is, indeed, the safest thing you could do. Well, actually, a CC with a very low limit or a preload, in no way linked to your banking info at all is the SAFEST, since just having ONE of your bank account numbers is an inroad to the rest of your banking info, but you have definitely chosen the most self-protecting way to deal with LL. I won't say "online" in general because, frankly, I do not feel that using your CC online is any less safe than handing it over to the checkout clerk making minimum wage at K-Mart IF you are dealing with a reputable and secure business... LL is neither of those things, however. Good thinking on your part for sure.

OK, the PayPal/LL functionality is still way jacked up then. :p

I'm aware that PayPal is fine, as I use it for other things with no issue. I actually contacted them myself and they told me that there's absolutely no reason my account shouldn't work on SL as well. Now someone just needs to inform LL...oh, wait, I did! *sigh*

Yes, I did the same... and they told me the same... and LL responded the same (they didn't respond at all, of course). Didn't mean to sound like I was jumping you, just pointing out what you already knew.... Division of Fault: PayPal 0% / LL 100%

ya know... LL has its problems no doubt, but if they suck nearly as bad as we think and are as stoopid as people indicate, why haven't we, the obviously smarter ones, built our own vastly superior competitor to SL.

As for the risk of identity theft... this is an issue... but before pushing the panic button keep in mind that the pros doing this and fencing the data are not hacking sites for the info. they are paying off clerks at the stores/restaurants/hotels/banks to collect the info, digging through you trash and mail boxes on a daily basis for old receipts, bills, and credit card offers and taking advantage of the terminally naive with spam offering things too good to be true or recent letter from YOUR bank....

I submitted a ticket and Lindens manning the Support Portal actually told me several times (claiming 'final solution' and closing the ticket each time) that the problem was on PayPal's end...guess who I believe?

They eventually gave me a generic 'it's part of our ongoing PayPal issues, please be patient' excuse and closed my ticket again. I keep reopening it though, because I want either a solution or a real answer...I'm stubborn like that.

If it is, remove it and re-add it ...

They have changed the bin ranges or something, that's all, in this instance.

I don't claim to be a programmer, Happy, nor to be able to create ANYTHING even remotely as complex as LL has in SL... but I'm not faulting their ability to come up with fantastic ideas (though their execution could use a LOT of work, especially in the resting phase). What I'm talking about in this case is their business/customer service model, and YES, I could do an INFINITELY better job than they on that front.

As for the the ID theft, you do have a point.... and I wonder how difficult it would be, if you could write flashy code and dazzle a Linden or two... to get hired on at LL. Those ID thieves are often if not usually pretty tech-wise. Additionally, it is LLs apparent failure to first examine and second monitor their third party partners as evidenced directly by the current billing mess that ALSO leaves gaping, inviting holes...

I don't claim to be better at being a Linden than LL... I claim that your average room full of primates has more common sense (as is often the case with brilliant programmers). ;)

definitely. They may be brilliant visionaries as far as the Concept of SL goes, but they are absoulutely the worst group of business people I've ever dealt with. In the time I've been here it's been one badly thought, poorly communicated, clumsily implemented idea after another.

Aye, the "Linden Tao" as it is called, taht LL lets their employess choose what they want to work on my be nice for company moral, but sucks for actual implementation/organization.

Monkey. Football.

I've seen lemonade stands by 8 year olds with better organized management.

Individually, the Lindens I have interacted with are very nice people. Intelligent and imaginative. Brilliant to the point of missing the obivious perhaps, but brilliant none the less.

As a group.....ummm.....Bad News Bears anyone?
