Unless you get two+ busy sims on the same physical host, I don't really see any problem with a sim using more than it's share. If you set the limits 50% high, you get everybody into the ballpark then step back and see how things behave for 6 months.

No, they have already said it will be parcel based. They have already said that the limits will be set "high". strictly parcel? have they abandoned the coexisting pools? if so then land may become a sellers market. I'm only sure that the monitoring tools were contingent on viewer 2.0, but some of the things said points to the server code for limits being in place at the same time. mind, I'm not exactly in the loop (seated somewhere behind a pillar), but I try to keep my ear to the ground. I can hear marching over the hill but I couldn't say if it's a parade or an invading army _____________________

You actually can with llTriggerSound(), which will work well for stationary objects. I didn't know that, thanks. Not a word about it in the wiki... Are there any limits in the number of sounds that can be triggered? I'm off to revise some scripts. Apologies for sidetracking the thread. _____________________

I didn't know that, thanks. Not a word about it in the wiki... Are there any limits in the number of sounds that can be triggered? There's a throttle/spam limit that you will run into if you do too many at once, but it's like 20 or something like that. You'll see a message in your chat window when it happens. Experiment. ![]() |

I think there will be two limits (pools).. sim-wide for avatars, and parcel for objects. At least, that's what Babbage keeps alluding to at his office hours.

I can't parse that. What do you mean? what Talarus said, in addition, with a single pool, land becomes more neccessary and therefore more valuable to guarantee the running of quantities of scripts... it's no fun to hang out with your friends if the plot is too small to support them in all their scripted glory. _____________________

I don't mean parcel-vs-avatar, I mean parcel-vs-sim.

Two different pools from which memory is allocated: per land, and per avatar. So if the guests use lots of scripts, it won't decrease the memory available to scripts on the parcel, and vice versa. Thanks. That is ONE big worry taken care of! Yeah, this is going to get tricky. As far as I can tell, before purchase, we'll just have to take the word of the seller about script memory requirements of a product. Until we get some quality time with the script memory statistics, I don't think anybody knows how to accurately label a scripted product. Sounds like for existing and already rezzed items we'll all just have to wait & see what we might need to remove if any. That could make things very tricky for some! I just hope they'll crank those limits up to something reasonable before they get to Agni. Me too. :/ _____________________

I guess we will soon sit (generic) naked in splendid isolation on our 512's surrounded by 101 furnished house for newbies and yell at each other across the boundaries....as long as our skin isn't blue that is.....
Low prim/low script..ok ok so it looks like a box...it is a box...think yourself lucky it has 4 sides...oops a limit on sides? |

.. and rarely surprised.
it's kinda sad when the pessimists have more in common with the realists than the optimists do. _____________________
