That sounds REALLY useful for poetry readings - do you remember where you found it?

Hi, I was given it by a friend that made it.. it is copy and trans.. contact me ingame and I'll ask if I can drop you a copy :)

Just a thought

Would setting up a simple prim with a texture changing script, with your pages copied onto textures work, if used with a 'click next page' control? Sounds too simple maybe?
No doubt some scriptor has a 4,000 line script that could do it sweeter.

Hi,

Coincidentally, I have written a script on this basis for my wife's book, we have a single prim version and a 2 or 3 prim version of the script, the 2/3 prim version uses script to open the front cover and then another to cycle through the "pages". You can jump to particular chapters with a menu at any point, then continue next page clicking from that point.
I will be selling "blank" (owner adds their "pages";) versions soon.

cheers,
Vik

I went to second life liabary collected some free old works of literature like Alice in Wonderland, etc but I couldn't really read them like regular book and when I tried to go back and read them notecard didn't upload.
I have been writing myself personal notecard Second Life diary blog on different adventures, photo art and links but its hard because its not like regular book.
You can't see the photo's and very few of my friends seem too be that interested.
I had theory in order to get others interested in visiting, reading or even buying something they have to be interested in the subject matter.
One of hardest things too is even if seems to be in Second life and also 1st life I guess even if a person has some interesting content, art, stories or ideals they would like or want to share.
The issue is actually finding people in game to are interested in consuming or interacting, even to sell.
I don't know how others personally make any sells.
I am published writer in my 1st life its hard. That why I haven't been published since.
I guess now I am just writer even if no one reads it or cares to read it. I write in second life but very few people will read it. I don't think there is market for anything it seems like other then female clothing, objects and general. Not sure if there really is a demand for art or literature. Textures aren't really even consider worth buying by many people yet textures make the objects look the way the do. Just my opinion for what its worth but I may be wrong.
I open fabric and art shop. I may never get sell but I see it as way to show of my work, what I am interested in, like 3d website.
I seen beautiful Liabaries, Art Gallaries that never seem to have single soul that ever visits them.

Apparently I hit a snag with the book. Because it look horrible otherwise, I need to publish HALF a page at a time. Also, whenever I touch the ThinC book all this crazy stuff keeps popping up.

Any tips?

BTW, Pre-orders are now 600L

I have something I am experimenting with not sure if it would for you but I made this sort of journal for other people to use to store things in virtual book.
I am not sure if its already been just testing it out right now.
I plan on customized textured covers for it but I really don't know it its going to work or how it could aid you.
Either way look me up if you want to talk about your project and progress.
I am just starting out and at this point I am finding hard to just give things away or even sell my own paintings for 80l so I understand the struggle.
I had ideal about advertising but not sure it it would work or be worth it too you but you could ask your friends to wear some type of advertising script for you.
I strongly suggest when you create the book do a small section of book within note card in book in contents less load and lag issues but someone new may not be able to figure out how to open different mini chapters.
Bigger notecards with full stories don't always load. The shop I am renting is only 50L for 2 weeks you get 30 prims.

Hmm...

Well, none of this matters to me now, seeing as:

A. I don't have enough L$ to upload all the textures for the 100 pages the book will be in-world.

B. My internet is down at my dorm (I'm using a library PC)

C. I can't give it out as a .pdf, because I don't have enough Real $$ to copyright it. The only thing I can think of is to either to have copying disabled (don't know how to do), or make them sign a contract or something else that I can use in a court of law in the event that they do copy it.

I would copy a SLurl (I'm in my apartment) to my apartment where you can buy the pre-order, but I haven't put it out yet and, as mentioned earlier, it'll be a week before I can log on again.

Yeah well if you can't buy 1000l there is other ways to make it but not sure if you have time to do it.
Either way I wish you well with your project, look me up if you need someone to talk tp when you get your internet back online. I love books virtual or other wise.
I can't afford though right now to spend 1500l on anything right now.

Hi Davgor. Good luck with your project, regardless of teh format you choose.

From: someone
As for why this is so expensive, keep two things in mind:
1. I have been working on this book for the PAST 5 YEARS. Wven when I wasn't working on it, the fact that the book was not finished still hung over my head.

2. This is less than 4 bucks in real world money. I was at the gym earlier today and got a protein shake for that much, and it took me 3 minutes to drink. This book takes a few hours to read and can be re-read.

I'd like to tackle some of your points above though:
#1 - You're a student. Imagine if the latest edition of a textbook doubled the price and you were given this as a reason? Or, imagine that Volume 2 of a trilogy cost half-again as much as the other two for similar reasons. It doesn't matter one lick how long it took you or how much you obsessed over the work. People who buy it have other concerns.
#2 - I agree whole-heartedly with the sentiment. You may, very well, be able to sell an eBook for that much. In order to do so, though, you'll likely want to build your reputation as a writer.

My first suggestion is to give reading &/or submit chapters (if they can stand alone) to appropriate 'zines. Also, before you put much cash into the project, find someone to look over it for you. At the very least, post excerpts to writing boards and let them tear it apart.

http://writingforums.com/ is a particularily good forum, btw.

Good luck - I'll try to keep an eye out and see how things go for you. Writers are just starting to dabble in SL and we're all looking for concrete examples of how it will end up working.
