I hope that "archiving" leaves the current urls for forum posts unchanged, that to the user it appears that they have just turned off the ability to create or edit posts. I am afraid that anything else will break all the links to forum posts and threads, rendering it impossible to follow links to posts and threads, possibly destroying the forum, thread and post sequence structure completely.

Lindal, thanks for putting your thoughts together so coherently. Your voice deserves to be heard.

I don't know about anyone else, but that's exactly why I've been using the acronym "SLA" for Second Life Answers.
SLA is not an acronym.

This isn't universally agreed upon, some dictionaries cite initialism as being an acronym.

Bloged it also:

http://www.sldemocraticmovement.org/open_letter_ll

The more places the open letter is in, the more people can read it ... even when the chances, that soemone inside LL will take any serious action to .. for once .. really improve the SL experience (actually I think they are doing rather good on the technical side of things considering that SL is much more stable as it used to be but the rest .. especially the comunication with us, their customers, jsut make me cry) .. but agein, the more people read it, the bigger is the chance for LL to be pressed to come up with satisfing answers.

Thank you, Lindal. I doubt that anyone understands the complex relationship between LL and the residents better than you.
From: Lindal Kidd
Any time LL raises fees, or cuts services, it might seem that it’s good for your bottom line. But in the end, if it hurts the SL economy, it hurts LL. If we make money, so do you. If we lose money, or leave the platform, you lose too. Any time LL competes directly with Residents within the SL economy, you ultimately wind up shrinking the economy.
This seems so obvious. I've mentioned it during cordial, relatively productive conversations with Lindens, but I've never received a response. They don't even attempt a defense of policies--they simply change the subject.

Well done, Lindal. That's the most heartening OP I've read in a long time - very well put and truly deserving of a cut 'n' paste pandemic.

And congratulations on the Squadron Commander Connolly's award of the Bronze Panties with Figtree Clusters. Wear them with pride if not some considerable discomfort.

I know, I have to be careful about that. I wouldn't want to give it any sort of endorsement.

Sorry if this came up elsewhere :o. I was peeking over to General Discussion and it's scary how little has changed in 3.5 years (aside from some contemporary pet peeves).

I find it amusing that they complain the forums aren't scalable, nor are they able to be monitored... yet, what are they wasting their times on? A BLOG. A blog which isn't even organized, as every Linden and probably a few monkeys post haphazardly to.

The forums have topical areas right off the bat. I don't have to 'search' or 'click a tag' to find which topical area I want to go. I want technical help, I go to that sub-forum. I want to shoot the breeze with other players about our favorite torture device (aka the game), I come to General. I want to know what's coming up, I got to announcements. It's simple, functional, and user-friendly.

The blog is none of those things. Also, while I ran the risk of getting my account banned/time-outed for some posts here, I could find out why by getting a friend to post asking why or even IM the Linden/resmod in question. The blog.. I could get banned just for disagreeing with the "Tao" or Linden Labs? After today, I refuse to have a thing to do with the blog. If it's not on the announcement forum, it's not worth my time.

The blog is a great supplement, not a replacement to even the general forums. Wanna spin things your way, use the forums as they are meant to be used. Force us to 3rd party sites and watch the game burn. You can't spin 3rd party sites, no matter how hard you try.

I also quit SL and said I wasn't coming back too. Not to mention the number of times I said I was leaving this forum. I lost track on that one, I think Love was counting. It's good to keem them guessing.

I went there in a true sense of giving it a look. I don't like it at all. The format, the way it works or even just the look of it. If that is what we will be given, then I won't be staying. I came here only for RA, I almost never look at any of the other sub forums. If there is no RA type place there, then there is no reason for me to stay there.

I just hope that if they don't, they don't patronize us with more bs and just make it quick.

I hate the way it works and how it is organzied, they couldn't have made it more difficult if they tried, but there's a fix for the look of it. Cerise Sorbet has posted a couple of greasemonkey scripts and user styles for Firefox:

http://userstyles.org/styles/24865

Comes in either blue or green and hugely enhances the look of the place. I hadn't realized until I installed the script how much of my dislike was due to simply the look of the place, which was very hard for me to read. I think it caused more resentment than I was consciously aware of.

Thank you Paladin for this information. When I went to the page, the installation links say :

Install Stylish with New Tab King for Firefox, or Install just Stylish for any Mozilla app.

I use Mozilla Firefox.... which one do I use?

or doesnt it matter?
