Why does this happen to my arms?

Why do my arms look like this? I just bought a L$4000 body/skin set from Cryolabs thinking that might fix the issue but my arms still look like spines are growing out of them or something.

Thanks for the help.

There's quite a few things it could be. I'm sure I won't get them all but you can try:

Check the graphics card you're using is up to the minimum specs.

Clear cache. It's always the default linden advice, but it's good advice and does sort quite a lot of these sorts of problems.

Check you're not wearing a funny shaped attachment.

Try tweaking your avatar detail settings in the preferences panel.

Try tweaking your avatar shape. (You can put other shapes on from the library, and you can play with the appearance of the body you're wearing, right click yourself and choose appearance and go from there.)

I would check in Preferences/Graphics Detail to see if Avatar Vertex Program is checked. I get a very similar look if it is unchecked on my system.
So it could be worth checking that out.

Good luck

the only time I have seen that is in Poser when an animation or pose is badly done. I would check the poses in your AO. Poser will let you rotate joints way beyond the normal range of motion. that kind of spikey twisted effect is exactly wht you see.

I've seen this happen on a friend's computer, and I never could figure out why it was doing this. Reinstalling didn't help, and I know it wasn't an AO.

I was getting spines like that on the preview grid for 1.11 (I think, maybe 1.10...) updating my graphics card drivers made it go away.

That jagged-arm feeling typically is the result of too much masturbation.

This happened to a friend of mine, but only he was able to see it, on his computer, if that's any consolation.

Maybe get updated driver for your video card?

Go to advanced graphics preferences and uncheck "enable AGP" if it is checked. I have that problem too if I have it checked.

Telling us what graphics card or built-in graphics processor you have might help. The artifacts look like its coming from a non OpenGL compliant hardware.
SL seldom, if ever, run properly on Intel based graphics.

For Windows, right click on your desktop and get properties and look under the 'settings' tab. Whats written in the 'display' box.

I use a Radeon X800 GTO. I had the same problem at one time. As others have said, the Avatar Vertex checkbox made the difference. Video driver version might also affect it.

What version is you video driver?

Look familiar? It's a driver issue, most likley. Update them if you can(or downgrade if you're using the newest version).

Avatar Vertex Program

I've just been struggling with the same problem for the last few hours. Finally, it was solved, by UNchecking the Avatar Vertex Program box. That also fixed my clothes and general appearance, which had all looked strange or missing.

Yeah, the Avatar Vertex Program is highly bugged. And what's worse is that having it on causes glitching on some systems, while having it off causes glitching on other systems. I would advise people to just toggle it to the opposite of whatever they have it set to if they're having weird avatar bugs, instead of saying Turn It Off or Turn It On :)
