I was just online and found MANY things to not be working:
Lindens shown as "Loading"
Presence/Friends list not working at all
Unable to upload textures or sounds or bulk upload
Inventory "Loading..." perpetually.
I teleported to several different sims and had the same problems throughout. I was online for at least a half hour, and then tried to relog just to see if it had been corrected.
Even this website and the splash screen to the client take more than a minute to load.

Yeah, they have been doing the ninja editing on the blog. Go figure. I'm suffering the whole nine yards and am incredibly frustrated by the fact that I fix an issue that was on my end, (yes, I knew it was. If you are running XP Media center with an ATI card, you may want to roll back to 7.4 on the drivers. Game kept crashing out when shutting down,) and was hoping to actually enjoy my time in the game.
*shrugs* Ah well. I'll get over it. CoH here I come!

From: Ciaran Laval That was yesterday No, it wasn't - the two "updates" are from today. LL is just so incredibly sloppy that they can't be bothered to put a date stamp on them. I doubt that is a surprise to anyone. On a related issue, I will be actively discouraging faculty members attending our upcoming university department's week-long teaching technology conference from using Second Life. It is not only too unstable but also too badly managed to be relied on for courses where students pay tuition.

Have you ever heard of patiance? Is it not enough they are working on it? Do you really think it gets done any faster making pointless blog updates every 15 minutes? I can tell you as a computer technician having customers call every hour to see if their computer is ready does not help it get done any faster, infact it just pisses off the person doing the work and they are less likely to hurry or even to want to work on it, and if they do hurry I can garrantee 90% of the time it will not be fixed right or as well as if the technician was given the propper time to do his job.

Right and as a computer technician, if the network had some pretty major faults and you sent out an email to everyone saying "The new image we're going to roll out in the future has had some bugs fixed" but made no mention of the network problems, how do you think your users would respond? I know how mine would respond, and it wouldn't be pretty!

HOW many years exactly do we have to wait? SL has be effed since day one. Every time they fix something, 10 more things break. They had no idea what they were doing when they decided to make Second Life... It took off unexpectedly and caught them with their pants down. They didn't have the infrastructure or the man power to handle the juggernaut they created. They still don't.

From: Alyx Sands ...so why exactly are you still here? (<-----slightly ironic, but not meant to insult you...severe lack of emoticons here...) Well, I'm still here cause I love the concept of SL... It's a terrific idea. Like most other human beings, I have HOPE. But it is obvious that LL needs to hear the voices of its citizens. I can't just be a FanBoi and love everything LL does without thinking about it.

Oh yes, I am so sure that LL sits around when things like search are broken and think, "well, no one will care." And then people post on the forums and LL says "OMG! I had no idea that people would notice that the functionality of SL is broken! We better fix it right away!" They know they have a system that can't handle the load. They fix one bottle neck and right away, the next bottle neck is slowing them down. The people the work at LL are just as frustrated as most of us, if not more. Many times when they fix something, it is not that 10 more things break, it is that 10 things that weren't noticed because something up stream didn't work right are now noticed. I don't envy what LL has to do. They have to basically redesign the entire back end of their system without any extended down times and keep the system from crashing while they work on the redesign. And if you really want to know what they were thinking when the started SL? I can tell you. They set off to change the world; and they did it.

I'd rather they closed it down while the redesigned the back end, then opened it up again when they were finished, all bright and fresh.
Think of the time it would save us AND them.

At what point you stop changing the world and deliver a stable, reliable product that people can in good conscious pay good money for an ongoing basis? Destroying the usability of the main grid for days in order to roll out an apparently untested release is simply not professional.

coco The problem with that is that it could take months and if they closed the grid, how would they make the money that they need to pay these people to program for them?

So far Ive defrosted the fridge, sorted out the wardrobes, fixed the panel on the side of the bath and thought about tackling the oven

Destroying the usability of the main grid for days in order to roll out an apparently untested release is simply not professional. I know they did some DB work, but I don't know to which DBs or if this is really related. It could be just a bunch of very bad breaks all happening at once. Even the best disaster plans can't predict everything. In general I am pleased with the progress I have seen in the over 3 years I have been part of SL. Could have been done different? Sure, might it have been better to do it a different way. It seems to me that a lot of what has been going on at LL has be with the goal of getting a stable, reliable product that people will pay for. If people are truly unhappy with the way that LL is going, nothing speaks louder then pulling your money and yourself out of SL.

Not easy if you are holding land and in-game transactions aren't working, and it won't even show how many Lindens you have. It's not like cancelling Netflix, people have money and time and virtual assets invested here.

I am sure that it is much easier for someone who apparently has only been here a couple months to muster the patience required to bear this tolerantly. Not everyone is as shiny as you, Mortus. Don't chide us for being tired of this.

In the 80's, Toyota sat back and watched Nissan come in and make mistake after mistake with their foray into the luxury car market with Infinity. Then they launched Lexus and kicked major ass.
LL is Infinity. I can't wait for the Lexus of SL to roll in with a workable platform. They certainly have the perfect blueprint of how not to run this type of company.

I have never heard of "patiance." I HAVE heard of patience and I believe that most of us paying customers have been patient. The technical problems are compounded by LL's unfortunately extremely poor communications with their customers and their simply pathetic customer service. Contradictory statements, issue dodging, obfuscation and, perhaps, out right lies by LL executives do little to foster an atmosphere where patience and trust can fliurish. Let me ask you a serious question though, Mortus. How long SHOULD we wait for these myriad performance issues to be resolved? What would be a reasonable amount of time?
