then all unite requests on AU must be spam.

Uninvited group requests are spam and no different than getting uninvited group join offers in-world.

it's not on there as a group so wasn't a group request. though i agree about the in world group offers being spam, as well as the constant "join _______ group" offered up so often right here in RA in the thinly veiled guise of being an "answer" as being spam.

If they did, they failed. They sent me a request, and I've never used Emerald. So I figure it's just someone adding friends.

When I was young, friends were people that you knew and liked, and who felt the same about you.

For anyone who hasn't yet found it, click on Account at the top right of the AU window, then from the top left of the Account window choose "Manage Applications", then "General Settings."

I turned them all off, but I suspect many will want to disable "Allow installed applications to access my extended info (gender, date of birth, location, time zone and language)."

That's the info in your Account--not just your Profile--that those installed apps could access. Yes, I know Facebook is just as eager to get all your data to all apps whenever there's an excuse to let it leak, but just thought folks here might have other intentions with this.

I've been having some issues with that too. Been receiving requests from people I do not know inworld. I've been looking them up in Search inworld before accepting their friend request, reading profiles, to see 'why' they wanted to 'unite' with me, in particular. So far I've found commonalities, shared groups, disability issues. They may know who I am even though I didn't recognize their name. So far, I've accepted the requests.

And, I have just received 5 calls on my cell phone, to give me the 'free quote I asked for online', from 5 different life insurance companies. I haven't asked for any life insurance quotes. The only new thing I've done online, is sign up for AU; did not provide my phone number, or my real name (which these people also had) but seems a strange coincidence that I'd get this slew of phone calls now, when I just joined AU. Paranoia, much.......(especially since when I ask where they got their info, they hang up.)

thank you, qie.

i was wondering where i post suggestions and ask for help, since their suggestions/help request app is run by a third party and isnt working.

btw, soon as you sign up, it starts showing you possible people to uhm... 'unite' with. suggestions, right. how they figure these out, especially before you fill out your profile, i'll never know. or, actually, i do know. you signed up as an sl avatar, so they put all the other sl avatars as your suggested friends.

if you're getting requests from people you dont know, that's probably where they are coming from.

btw: where's the option to ban/mute !emeraldviewer!?

lastly... if you got a friends/unite request from me... that was a mistake, i was trying to click on the X to delete all the suggested friends they suggested to me. but they just kept suggesting more.... omg!

(in case youre wondering? im only on this thing, cuz a group i'm admin for is on it. and really, if it has a calendar and stuff, it will be good for our fan group, since only members are allowed in the actual group.)
