OK so I'm an idiot and I managed to get a message like this: You are being removed from the wings of hope sim. You are in violation of Second Life's Terms of Service. You placed 5 chat bugs on our sim, yes I know they are called the sl bible, but there is no bible here, just 5 very tiny chat bugs. Linden labs have been notified and you have been reported, with proof. what does this mean? I think what happened was that as I misunderstood to use the blasted slBible object I picked up from another "church" sim and tried to drag and drop the item to the room I was in (that I had rented btw, to try and prevent myself getting into trouble for littering or whatever you people call it) I was inevrtedly leaving these "chat bugs" lying around. I can't believe that as a christian I've got myself banned from a christian sim (and possibly from the whole of SL) just 'cos I was trying to work out how to use a bible in my very first week....... help and advice appreciated thanks

I would'nt worry about it, SL will only give you a warning at the most.

I knew it, religion is dangerous sorry for that joke. The problem seems to be that you accidently placed a few copies of the SLBible object on the floor. The scripts inside that object likely contain listeners, i.e. functions to listen in to the chat. A sim owner can detect listeners, but can't see what the script exactly does. It could be a function to listen for owner commands, or to listen to a HUD, but it could also be a chat spy. The sim owner overreacted a little, imho. They can ban you from their land, every land owner has the right to do that for whatever arbitrary reason. But that's about it. It isn't that easy to get someone banned from SL. If a Linden checks the scripts inside the supposed spyware and finds nothing harmful, they'll likely completely ignore the issue. /Edit: I'd IM the sim owner and explain what went wrong. It's a typical newbie mistake to rez multiple copies of an object, I think they'll understand that.

From: Kaia Blachere thanks for that guys <sigh> it's far more complicated on SL than I thought it would be... You have my sympathy. If you keep in mind that the dynamics of SL are just like that of RL, you'll be alright. As for being banned from a sim, simply IM the sim owner and explain what happened. If they refuse to listen, well, just chalk it up to experience and don't bother to go back there.

However, I *do* wonder how the chat bugs ended up in a bible object ...

I agree with Aleister - your sim owner could have been a bit more lenient on a first offense, particularly considering you're new, and have yet to learn of the many intricacies of Second Life.
To my knowledge, the slBible is NOT a spy utility, but simply a wearable scripted object that listens to open chat for requests to quote bible verses. At least that's the case with the one created by California Condor. The key is, you don't rez them out, you simply attach a copy to your avatar.

On the upside, if they're banning everyone who leaves a script out that uses listener functions, they will have a very empty sim within a very short time.
Then there'll be no chat for anyone to spy on.
...My god, their plan - it's /genius/!!!

Having just gone to that sim and taken a brief look around, I think it may have been God's mercy to ban you.
