I have close to a 1/2 million lindens I have amassed ingame. (of course 'I' didnt but I am not going to use my real name so my customers dont go on a 'omg he is so rich, can I haz moniez? benders'.)
I have never cashed out of SL before. I am a basic account with no means of support. I assume paypal is what I have to do but how do you do it? Does anyone have any tips out there?

The very first thing would be to buy some L$ if you haven't started your LindeX clock yet (and you plan to use the LindeX to sell). You can check: https://secondlife.com/my/lindex/describe-limits.php to see which level you're currently at (the blue column). Make sure you go there with the account that has the L$ you want to sell, and not with your alt since LindeX limits are per-account.

If you're at Level 1 already then you'll be able to sell them all in one go, if not then it'll probably take you about a month for you to be able to ($300 worth on the 8th day, then rest on the 28th day).

That's as far as setting things up goes :). There's more but your current trading limit will more or less decide what you're currently able to do before going into limit sell vs market sell.

No I have never bought lindens I made all mine the hard way. Bit by bit and saved, saved, saved. Do I need to link a CC card to a account to withdraw then first?

Take a look at the limits page to make sure you're currently in the "0 day" column. If you were ever premium or did another payment to LL then that qualifies as well.

If so you'll need to buy *some* L$ (amount doesn't really matter) and wait 8 days before you'll be able to sell any L$ (and then only at $300 at the most).

----

Once those 8 days pass (or unless you're already currently at Level 1): https://secondlife.com/my/lindex/currency_settings.php

And change the setting to Advanced and OK (you can't limit sell without that).

---

Then for the actual selling: https://secondlife.com/my/lindex/sell.php (which is under "Manage" in the "Linden Exchange" sidebar on the main site and then "Sell L$";).

You'd look at the "Open Sell Orders at the Best 20 Rates" column and limit sell at whatever value is at the top (right this second that would be L$260/$1).

Then you put the amount to sell into the first box under "Limit Sell" and the exchange rate (which is "260" in this case) and click "Offer to Sell".

You don't necessarilly have to settle for L$260/$1 and L$259 would give you a slightly higher proceed but at the expense of waiting longer and that's a whole other explanation :).

---

Once the sell order fills and you see the US$ reflected in your account you'd just be able to send the money off to paypal ("Process Credit" link).

In general: if you don't understand something or are unsure then just ask for clarification. If it turns out you have to wait 8 days then that's plenty of time to get familar :).

And if it helps sell a limited amount the very first time so you'll have gone through it and don't have to worry about messing up with a substantial amount.

You need a verified paypal account.
To do this you need to make a paypal account and verify it.. there is a small charge to your credit card for doing this, but is refunded when you input the verification number that appears on your credit card statement.

this allows you to link your Paypal to your bank account.

Sounds like a lot of hassle for only a thousand bucks. Maybe I will just spend it inworld. I really don't have SL time to mess with it. I do thank you for the answers though. But fact is I refuse to give LL my information so I guess they keep my money too. Eh, its a game. I will just go nuts with it then. Maybe spend it on low prim furniture. Start a store, call it 'Saving Private Prim'. (groan)

If you have a thousand to withdraw you will probably need to report it as income to whatever regime you are under.

But you could certainly spend it all in world. That's what I do.

"It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God." (Matthew 19:24)

Think of me as your spiritual advisor. Give me all your money, and you will (eventually) enter the kingdom of God (maybe).

Unless, of course, the kingdom of God is all around us.

Or unless there IS no God.

Religion is so confusing.

Give me all your money anyway, k?

But, but, but... I need it! It could cover my tier bill a really long time! At least until Sunday, maybe even Monday!

I'll take whatever I can get from your proceeds, you won't gain much, I'll talk to you for a little while, then eventually drift off, no phone numbers or e-mail, and no pixel sex.... but then that's pretty much what everyone else is offering. my method just means you'll have less drama and heart ache, know the score upfront, and can get on with your normal activities secure in the knowledge that I bought myself something nice and it made me happy....

so what's the going price for honesty and reduction of drama? =)

For small amounts like that, you have to use PayPal.

So much LOL in this thread.

EDIT: For perspective, here's a screenshot Anshe Chung took from her main account in January 2005, before Second Life had even experienced concurrency numbers of 4K users. Take a look in the upper-right corner of the pic. :)

If you don't want LL to have your personal info, try the above site.

You will still need paypal and will have to be a member for several days to cash out any decent amount.

So......asking idly......how much would that cost him, renting a full homestead for a couple months? Just curious...
