Child
What wind is this across the roofs so softly makes his way, That hardly makes the wires to sing, or soaring smoke to sway ?
Wind
I am a weary southern wind that blows the livelong day Over the stones of Babylon, of Babylon, The ruined walls of Babylon, all fallen in decay.
Oh, I have blown o'er Babylon when royal was her state, When fifty men in gold and steel kept watch at every gate, When merchantmen and boys and maids thronged early by and late Under the gates of Babylon, of Babylon, The marble gates of Babylon, when Babylon was great.
Child
Good weary wind, a little while pray let your course be stayed, And tell me of the talk they held, and what the people said, The funny folk of Babylon before that they were dead, That walked abroad in Babylon, in Babylon, Before the towers of Babylon along the ground were laid.
Wind
The folk that walked in Babylon, they talked of wind and rain, Of ladies' looks, of learned books, of merchants' loss and gain, How such-a-one loved such-a-maid that loved him not again, ( For maids were fair in Babylon, in Babylon; ) Also the poor in Babylon of hunger did complain.
Child
But this is what the people say as on their way they go, Under my window in the street; I heard them down below.
Wind
What other should men talk about, five thousand years ago? For men they were in Babylon, in Babylon, That now are dust in Babylon I scatter to and fro.

Because I could not stop for Death, He kindly stopped for me; The carriage held but just ourselves And Immortality. We slowly drove, he knew no haste, And I had put away My labor, and my leisure too, For his civility.
We passed the school, where children strove At recess, in the ring; We passed the fields of gazing grain, We passed the setting sun.
Or rather, he passed us; The dews grew quivering and chill, For only gossamer my gown, My tippet only tulle.
We paused before a house that seemed A swelling of the ground; The roof was scarcely visible, The cornice but a mound.
Since then 'tis centuries, and yet each Feels shorter than the day I first surmised the horses' heads Were toward eternity.

The Road Not Taken TWO roads diverged in a yellow wood, And sorry I could not travel both And be one traveler, long I stood And looked down one as far as I could To where it bent in the undergrowth; Then took the other, as just as fair, And having perhaps the better claim, Because it was grassy and wanted wear; Though as for that the passing there Had worn them really about the same, And both that morning equally lay In leaves no step had trodden black. Oh, I kept the first for another day! Yet knowing how way leads on to way, I doubted if I should ever come back. I shall be telling this with a sigh Somewhere ages and ages hence: Two roads diverged in a wood, and I— I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference.

The wall on which the prophets wrote Is cracking at the seams. Upon the instruments of death The sunlight brightly gleams. When every man is torn apart With nightmares and with dreams, Will no one lay the laurel wreath When silence drowns the screams.
Confusion will be my epitaph. As I crawl a cracked and broken path If we make it we can all sit back And laugh. But I fear tomorrow I'll be crying, Yes I fear tomorrow I'll be crying.
Between the iron gates of fate, The seeds of time were sown, And watered by the deeds of those Who know and who are known; Knowledge is a deadly friend When no one sets the rules. The fate of all mankind I see Is in the hands of fools.
Confusion will be my epitaph. As I crawl a cracked and broken path If we make it we can all sit back And laugh. But I fear tomorrow I'll be crying, Yes I fear tomorrow I'll be crying.

People come and go And forget to close the door, And leave their stains and cigarette butts trampled on the floor, And when they do, remember me, remember me.
Some of them are old, Some of them are new, Some of them will turn up when you least expect them to, And when they do, remember me, remember me.
Lucy you're my girl, Lucy you're a star, Lucy please be still and hide your madness in a jar, But do beware: it will follow you, it will follow you.
Some of them are old But it would help if you could smile, To earn a crooked sixpence you'll walk many a crooked mile, And when you do, remember me, remember me.

I came to the forums and found they were gone My friends and my family all had moved on
Scattered they were to the ends of the web to Slapt and to Slu and some few were dead
The threads were all frozen The voices were stilled Another community Lindens had killed
I shuffled my feet in the dust on the floor Muttered, "Fuck you, LL" Killed the lights, closed the door
Though the web is so wide May we all meet again At the Hangout, in world or at 2Citizen

Stop all the clocks, cut off the telephone, Prevent the dog from barking with a juicy bone, Silence the pianos and with muffled drum Bring out the coffin, let the mourners come.
Let aeroplanes circle moaning overhead Scribbling on the sky the message "The forum is dead." Put crepe bows round the white necks of the public doves, Let the traffic policemen wear black cotton gloves.
It was our North, our South, our East and West, Our working week and our Sunday rest, Our noon, our midnight, our talk, our song; We thought that it would last forever: We were wrong.
The stars are not wanted now; put out every one, Pack up the moon and dismantle the sun, Pour away the ocean and sweep up the woods; For nothing now can ever come to any good.

Yay, an emo poetry thread! \(^_^)/ From: Ann Otoole I cannot die For I never existed I am immortal Short, sweet, to the point... and uncannily appropriate. From: Brenda Connolly "It's easier to kneel down than it is to bend over."
Frank Zappa Why does that make me wanna cover my ass? From: Lindal Kidd (doggerel by Lindal Kidd) Nice work, Lindal. (Same meter as "The Night Before Christmas".)

This was my angst anthem of choice throughout my adolescence (which lasted until I was about 40 in human years). Better check your dates though. In the Court of the Crimson King is widely considered among prog fans to be the first progressive rock album. It came out in 1969. I still love it and the Crims are still going strong and still out there on the cutting edge 40 year later. [ETA - well that came out pedantic. That wasn't my intention at all, but I won't change it now. I just love King Crimson and enjoyed seeing someone else post about them. That epic melody rose up in my head as soon as I saw the name of this thread.]

That's great, it starts with an earthquake, birds and snakes, an aeroplane - Lenny Bruce is not afraid. Eye of a hurricane, listen to yourself churn - world serves its own needs, regardless of your own needs. Feed it up a knock, speed, grunt no, strength no. Ladder structure clatter with fear of height, down height. Wire in a fire, represent the seven games in a government for hire and a combat site. Left her, wasn't coming in a hurry with the furies breathing down your neck. Team by team reporters baffled, trump, tethered crop. Look at that low plane! Fine then. Uh oh, overflow, population, common group, but it'll do. Save yourself, serve yourself. World serves its own needs, listen to your heart bleed. Tell me with the rapture and the reverent in the right - right. You vitriolic, patriotic, slam, fight, bright light, feeling pretty psyched.
It's the end of the world as we know it. It's the end of the world as we know it. It's the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine.
Six o'clock - TV hour. Don't get caught in foreign tower. Slash and burn, return, listen to yourself churn. Lock him in uniform and book burning, blood letting. Every motive escalate. Automotive incinerate. Light a candle, light a motive. Step down, step down. Watch a heel crush, crush. Uh oh, this means no fear - cavalier. Renegade and steer clear! A tournament, a tournament, a tournament of lies. Offer me solutions, offer me alternatives and I decline.
It's the end of the world as we know it. It's the end of the world as we know it. It's the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine.
The other night I tripped a nice continental drift divide. Mount St. Edelite. Leonard Bernstein. Leonid Breshnev, Lenny Bruce and Lester Bangs. Birthday party, cheesecake, jelly bean, boom! You symbiotic, patriotic, slam, but neck, right? Right.
It's the end of the world as we know it. It's the end of the world as we know it. It's the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine...fine...
(It's time I had some time alone)
