From: Indeterminate Schism Never. ever bots. Unless your're doing things scripts just won't allow. Group-inviters are ok. AI research is ok. 'Models' are a waste of sim resources and any bots that actually try to interact are BAD, BAD, BAD. Get rid of the bots. Really, other that using them for research they are a drag on resources at best. While I can think of non-traffic-gaming reasons why people want them I can't think of any reason I'd want to buy from the people who use bots. How did I miss this? The sim resources you mention are none of your business or concern. So, if you are shopping for a piece of funiture with animations, and you are on your own, as a great numner of people are, you'd rather not have any way of finding out what the animations are really like? But if you don't, other people do. And, of course, there are other bots than those you mentioned that are very good too.

I can't stand bots in clubs.
I go to a club to socialize. I want 100% human behind all those avatars or I'm wasting my time there.
If I know a bot's there, I might as well leave.
To me... its the owner telling me - I'm scamming you to get you here, and lying about the service I'm providing.

Hmm - is 2 months old long enough to be considered necroposting?
What the hell, I'll give my opinion anyway
If the bots are programmed to not throw that damn ascii text spam into chat, I'll take them over the average idiot club goer any day.

Greeter bots annoy me to no end. Then You get all of those menu-pop ups thrown at you... landmark, rules, join my group for L$500...discard, discard, discard. I know I could set the thing to ignore but I keep thinking the real avitar might have something important to say.

I have seen that many times. What's up with that.

The beds chat in IM to the people on the poseballs, telling them in graphic detail what is going on. The text is a simple scripting job. The animation is actually a head bob - something even a raw beginner can do - so it's way cheaper to produce them. No issues with licensing complex ones from an animator. The beds are priced higher than normal beds because they are a niche product for people who demand a predictable privacy experience.

Now that's just plain wrong... If you're going to bounce pixels, bounce all of them.

The sooner LL ban bots from sl the better the place will be.There only purpose is to generate high vis counts and give some buisiness's an unfair advantage in this. They consume much needed resources and when in high numbers create unwanted lag. Oh did i mention i dont like Bots

I wandered into a large cub once to find lots of people there. Pole-dancers and their admirers, barmen,..... The pole dancers talked to the customers.
I was the only live avatar there. They were all bots.... bloody greeter too! What a sad lonely place for anyone. It would have felt less empty if there had been nobody else there.

every single bot in a given place means one "real person" less that could go there. 'nuff said.

In a club no i do not like bots. I dont need to be greeted by something that would not care if i was there or not as it has no input with me. In a store if the greeter is giving info then that i can accept

I have this thing that is automated.
It is known as my hand. When ever I see a
Yes | No | Ignore question, I say "No"
When I see a
Accept | Decline | Ignore I chose Decline.
Now I am slightly annoyed and very likely to TP straight out of there again to never return.

When you think about it... bots are the equivalent of computer controlled characters. NPCs in mmorpg parlance. When you are playing one of those single player games at home every single character is a bot. But in SL you expect everyone to be human. I remember when I first joined and that was the case but nowadays it's a bit unnerving to have a bunch of people standing around not doing nothing. Maybe if they hailed me and offered me a quest I'd like them more.

From: Pussycat Catnap On what basis did you determine you were the only live avatar? Profiles Chat to IM to Shout - "Is there anyone here who is NOT a bot??" I wouldn't normally proposition the house, but as the realisation of the scale of the bot usage in the place hit me, it became a mission to find a human.

I'm rereading Snow Crash again (I do every year or so). They have a metaverse club called The Black Sun and they describe some of the daemons (bots) that it uses, which would seem pretty cool, if a bit unpractical for SL. They have waiter daemons that travel around the club taking drink orders. Bouncer daemons that eject unruly avatars and graveyard daemons that removed 'dead' avatars. Of those 3 I think a waiter bot that walks around to tables and takes and fills drink orders would add an enjoyable bit of surrealism to a club in SL. But it would have to be properly scripted, only coming to the table when called and not being overly chatty, just take the drink orders, repeat them back and go get the simulated drinks. I would find that a hoot and it would probably be a cool thing about a club that would bring me back. Much more so than bots chat spamming and playing a stupid audio loop over and over ... i.e. "welcome to badgirls".
