I haven't been spending much in a while, because Sl hasnt had many new products lately. And many of them are not particularly new, just recombinations of what was already avaiable. I feel like i already have some of everything. The number of potential combinations of prim/script/texture is not endless. Ultimately, the range of SL products depends on what tools and capabilities can be built into the world by the Lindens. I am waiting for the new sculpty prims to become more available. I might buy 'sculpty'items, but they arent many for sale, yet.

JEVN vendors have been breaking like crazy. At least three merchants at my mall have replaced their JEVNs with competing products because of lack of sales directly due to recent JEVN instability. It's not just JEVN, it is anything scripted that relies on communications that is failing. I have been having major problems with the llEmail, llLinkMessage, and any other communications channel such as dialog menus. EMail to outside addresses is failing about 20% of the time. EMail between objects is pretty reliable, but email from outside to an object is useless now. Last time I tried it it took 2 hours to get the message though and 4 out of 5 never showed up. This has been happening since the pacth before this one, but has gotten much worse with the last patch. We'll see if the rolling restart fixes any of it I guess. People with SLX have been reporting their products are being given away with no money collected. Apez vendors are failing just as often as JEVN. I have even had to adjust some of my scripts to repeat commands twice, in hopes that at least one of the commands will get through. |

Sales of larger higher priced prefabs are down but sales of lower priced smaller prefabs are up and the majority of these are sold to customers under 2 months old. So the newbs are still spending. Also noticed that my plot has had less visitors per day over the last 2 months. Although this hasn't really affected my profit line there do seem to be less people shopping. This happened last summer as well and I think other peoples comments about people having different computer habits in summer, is dead on the money. Last year, the introduction of free accounts helped boost business considerably come the autumn. I don't anticipate a similar increase in new players this autumn so it will be interesting to see if business in general improves for everyone after the summer lull.

Sales are down for everyone no matter what you sell. I have noticed it as well for the past couple of weeks. Alot of people are claiming that its summer and thats why but to be honest I don't think that has anything to do with it. Look at the login numbers, they are just as high. I am not sure why buying has dropped so bad but its not summer. I guess I should not be shock though with all the problems there have been.

And the gas prices anticipating holiday driving went up too ... If it costs you extra to pay for your gas, you cant buy virtual whatsits. That may be true for Americans, Colette, but most residents are non-american. There's a whole world out there. Oh, and by the way, it's called petrol. |

the mysterious lack of sales is simply due to the fact that a great percentage of the userbase can't actually get lindens on a regular basis right now. When they finally fix the lindex and linden purchasing thingies so they stay fixed things will probably return to normal (whatever the heck that is around here hehe) . Meanwhile all we can do is wait although today everything seems to be working okay so this is good

You think 32 and 64 meter spam lot selling is a way to make a good impression seeing as it's so looked down on by the community? Have you tried slexchange and slboutique. They have always been the best places to move product for me personally.

Thats besides the point though - since even if the entire rest of the world's fuel prices are constant, If the US's prices go up thus meaning Americans have less money to spend on SL , then sales still go down. People from the US still make up a sizable chunk of Second Life after all, and if they spend less, less gets spent. ------- Originally it was named Petrol because that was the nam the company called it that sold gasoline - as a treatment for Lice. ![]() |

I don't know what is happening to everyone else, but my shop (Electric Pixels, Caso Milo 192, 114, 134), is doing just fine. I do a lot of promotion (note shameless plug in previous sentence), and provide friendly service, and it really does help. Sales are good and growing (but alas not enough to retire from RL yet, LOL!)
I have to agree with the SLBoutique comments - it has totally collapsed. From selling a couple dozen products per month I now am lucky to sell even ONE per month on SLB. SLX seems steady, though. I am about to give up on SLB. |

It may be that many residents have enough stuff (god knows I do) and are enjoying interaction more with other residents. I notice that residents are looking a lot better and better dressed these days...I think biz might be better if there was a social aspect..maybe a person on staff to help or an event for people to attend.
I know classes are getting very large these days. It maybe that people are spending more time learning how to script and build rather than buying. I set out a freebie box of what I consider the best free build tools and they have been very popular. A new phase...? |

If so, I think it's great they punish people who cut SL up into ugly tiny parcels, like you. Hang on a minute! I don't carve up land into tiny parcels. The plots for my stalls are 64sq m. Often they are on ad farms but several of them have been made by buying up 4 x 16m plots and combining them. My stalls are neat little round podiums, where I display boxed sale goods, and there is a small sign mounted on a shiny metal arch. These stalls are far more attractive than loads of rotating ad cubes so I'm actually improving the look of the world - and surely having a chain of small shops to sell content I created is entirely within the spirit of Second Life. |

i've pulled all my featured ads from SLX now. I was making good sales in Q1 on the site but they plummeted in Q2 so I cannot justify the extra expense. My profit line from sales in world is still increasing month on month. and takings for wk1 in July are on target. I didn't even bother updating my stuff on SLB during my last update. To be honest it has never generated the same lvl of sales since ESC took over. I think SLX and SLB have grown so large and offer so many products that it is not really of any use to me now. I sell 40 products on SLX and my items get about 100 views per day in total. When I was selling 15 item a year ago I used to get 200 - 300 views per day.

'They are in the same kinds of locations' and are more attractive and notceable than the old plots. hmmm does that not tell you anything? Are your faithful customers not kinda knowing that you may have moved? On a bigger picture, sl has been very borked of late, confidence has been dented by buyers paying for goods they don't receive, vendors not working, SLX had quite a bad time recently, website etc going down, the reported having to revamp the whole thing, IM's not getting through, prims not rezzing, not deleting, not able to take into your inventory etc etc.. who would feel confident about spending hard earnt cash under these circumstances? _____________________

So your petrol hasnt gone up also? No more than usual Colette, and not particularly over the last 3 weeks. Originally it was named Petrol because that was the nam the company called it that sold gasoline - as a treatment for Lice. ![]() Wow, I never knew that. Lice? Yuck. Does that mean there's no such thing as a lousy driver? It also appears that the name Gasoline pre-dates the word Petroleum by 27 years, so I guess you got it right there too. ![]() |

its called Petrol... becasue its a shortening of the name Petrolium, but WAS used before engines for lice and thats why the name stuck *lol*, but Petrolium is its ACTUAL name, gasoline or GAS
Some terms have been stranged changed i.e Liquid Petrolium Gas (LPG) is called "Autogas" they are what is known as "Americanisms", such as most medication is known under a trade name rather than the chemical .. i.e Asprin Anyway ... back to sales..*grin* Its been a bit slow of late... but I think everyone is correct its a mixture of so many things. Personally there isnt THAT many customers to choose from really, I would say 20% of the user base dont really exist. Some users just use SL as camping to generate reveniew so dont spend in game, With the ability to buy lindens being difficult people just arnt spending during a normal dry patch anyway. Those that are here for the longer term will weather it out, the folks that come to SL to make a quick buck will just get bored and leave. PS ...... SLUK.INFO .... its my forum ... with no name and shame policy *lol8 ... just though i would get that in to this SHAMELESS plugfest *lol* _____________________

hmmm does that not tell you anything? Are your faithful customers not kinda knowing that you may have moved? I don't think I had any faithful customers, just passing trade. I have done a test sale with a friend so everything is working OK, it just seems the economic climate has changed in SL. The last of my old 32m stall plots is still on sale and is one of the cheapest but still nobody wants it!!! |

I often wondered if my prices are too high, but looking at other places mine at not that high, rather low actually.
so I been thinking, I might.. try a full outfit package see if that works everything except skin and hair as i am not so good at making hair and a total spaz at making skin but include info on where to get skin and hair to complete the look.... think it might work? anyone ever do that? any luck? need to try something, need to somehow get sales and hope something like that will contribute to additional sales. use lucky chair, bidbox and a mobvend as well as have a slex atm and a ginko atm to try to generate traffic, doesn't seem to help yes I place ads, and use those as part of the description. I do not like to spam my ads with useless keywords but been debating that as well... anyone know any good ideas that might help all of us through this dry spell? |
