Can you believe that it’s been a year already? Remember when old so-and-so did such-and-such? Good times…good times. No anniversary is quite as special as the first, so we are taking three days to celebrate.
Wednesday, June 23 is the one day in Second Life that could not possible go unmarked and the day kicks-off with Gala Parade. Celebrating Second Life’s first year with the theme Digital Pioneers, the Parade starts in Olopue and runs counter clockwise through Hiaka, Milu and Kane, then south through Ku and Akea, east to Kanaloa and Apukohai, then south to Lie and Mooaleo. Seating is limited, so arrive early. The Parade runs twice, once at 1pm PDT and again at 7pm PDT. For info about entering your organization's float for cash prize of up to US$300, link here.
On Thursday, The One Year Young Festival, presented by Spellbound Events, starts at Noon and runs all day long in Lime and Plum. Party-goers can celebrate Second Life with games, prizes, refreshments, and a One Year Young kid avatar contest Make sure to wear a kid version of your normal AV. For more info link here.
The anniversary activities culminate on Friday with Second Life CEO Philip Linden unearthing the Beta Time Capsule, buried amid great pomp one year ago by Second Life’s Beta Pioneers. Philip will mark the occasion with a live audio address at 5pm PDT. This one is sure to be a tough ticket, so Residents are encouraged to set up listening parties - we will post the URL in the events calendar just before the broadcast. To listen, you will either need to attend on a parcel linked to the URL or tune in from an application that supports streaming MP3 broadcast such as Winamp, iTunes, or Windows Media Player. The contents of the Time Capsule will be on display in Plum for a few days after the event.
One Big Year and three big days of anniversary events. We won’t have another Anniversary Gala for at least year, so don’t miss out on this one!
(edited to list other live audio listening options)
