The Governor is celebrating Second Life’s first birthday with a Gala Parade, and has decided that this month’s Developer Incentive Awards will go to the Residents who create the parade’s grandest floats! First place wins US$300, second gets US$200, and US$145 goes to third. The theme of this Gala Parade is “Digital Pioneers” and it will wind its way though Second Life’s newly added regions. As the celebratory procession will follow the area’s waterways, your floats will need to...well…float. The Governor will provide a basic scripted floating framework on which you’ll stage your group's statement. The 31-prim rule for vehicle will be in effect, so builders will need to use attachments. You’re allowed more than one Resident per float, and custom animations are encouraged! Rules about limits of prims and avatars per float will follow. In the spirit of the real world parades floats must represent groups instead of individuals. Groups should consider creating floats to promote themselves within the theme of the parade; social groups, non-profits, and groups representing commercial interests are all invited. Newly formed groups may enter as well. Any award will be paid to the group member who submitted the entry and the winner decides about any distribution. At least one member must be available to drive the float during one of the two scheduled parade times on Wednesday, June 23 at 1 PM and 7 PM PST. Sign up by responding to this thread , and we’ll make sure you receive a copy of the float platform as soon as possible!

Float spec -

Here are the requirements for building the floats.
You must use the scripted floating platform. You can get a copy at a dispenser in the Ahern/Morris welcome area - Morris 91, 251.
Each float is limited to 198 prims plus the two prims that make up the scripted floating platform. No more than 29 of these can be attached to the platform. The rest of them have to be attached to avatars positioned on the float. Don't feel you have to use all these prims.
A maximum of four avatars can be positioned on the float.
The float can be no more than 30 meters in any dimension.
Custom animations are encouraged. Particles are fine.
See above for other rules.

A couple of notes that float-makers should be aware of -
Most objects need to be attached to avatars sitting on the float. In order to avoid having the attachments move along with the avatar, you should attach the objects at the avatar's hip.
Also, when crossing sim boundaries, expect to dip in the water for a few seconds.

Need to arrive early to enter the float contest
06-21-2004 16:06
People entering the float contest should check in at least 1/2 hour ahead of the parade time -- at Bethel 1, 200 -- to register, get instructions and info about their position in the parade. You can arrive up to an hour before the parade and the early arrivals will be assigned earlier positions. No need to rez your float during the registration.
You'll need to get to your pre-parade positions a few minutes before the starting time. When the parade starts, you'll need to drive very slowing and keep adequate distance between you and the float in front of you.

Float Spec clarification

While the dimensions of the combined objects attached to AVs on the float can be up to 30 meters in any dimension, the objects making up the float itself should be limited to 16 meter in any dimension.
The Parade starts in Olopue and runs counter clockwise through Hiaka, Milu and Kane, then south through Ku and Akea, east to Kanaloa and Apukohai, then south to Lie and Mooaleo. We will have the floats pre-staged in the sims to the east.
