I have been flying all around in the 1.9.1.16 grid and I haven't seen a single gray loading texture, which is the first time for months I have not seen a multitude of plethoras of gray loading textures.
It's 4:00 am here, I hope that is not the explanation.

Actually, unloaded textures here seem to be: * pure white, or * a screenshot of something I was doing earlier (?!) I don't really prefer these to grey.

I have seen a few gray textures in my av now, in appearance mode.
Other than that I have not had any unloaded textures at all.
My arms are deformed, but you can't win 'em all.

They replaced the grey with "blank". It is a bit of improvement. On a mostly empty grid I got:

I think the old, smokey, semi-transparent ones were less of an eyesore. Those white ones look bothersome to me - even worse than the grey. Did the old opaque texture cause lag or something?

Nah, I think the smoke texture was thought to be too ambiguous or not opaque enough so that you could see through walls. In my experience, flying at normal AV speed, I collide into totally unrendered prims more often than I hit grey walls. Especially when trying to peek in skyboxes.

OOh i like this. White looks so much better to me then grey holodeck stuff. Plus if you use the blank texture in your builds you dont have to load anything.

Couldn't they make them a smokey invisi-prim? They're the coders, they can do it! That way it isn't see-through, culls objects, AND doesn't make everywhere look like arse when you're loading

I've had a tremendous problem with the loading textues, and the difference in the real grid and the current preview grid is like that between night and day.
I'm not seeing huge numbers of the problems with the texture loading, it's like a ray of sunlight after months of gray everwhere.
Sigh, it'll probably go back to normal - that is, a world of gray or white or whatever - once this version hits the main grid.
