Hi there... i just logged to see if there is (or will be) a solution to this problem... Anyway I tried to install quick time using crossbrowser office, so I have (for example) QT movies playing inside mozilla... and I think this can be a much easier solution for streaming inside the client... what do you think? of course i know crossbrowser office is not free, before you jump on me!

I was hoping to have this to QA today so it could go into the next round of previews, but I'm blocked by a terrible interaction between GStreamer and a new library we've started to depend upon. Hopefully I'll get it shaken-out over the weekend, somehow.

Does it cause a crash, freeze-up, or worse(like turn the computer to a flaming mess)?

What is the new library and is media-libs/gstreamer-0.10.12 going to be fresh enough for the new version?

GStreamer 0.10.12 is fine.
For the curious, the clashing 'new' library we're using is libresolv, which it turns out is being a big compatibility pain across distros even with a custom build of this lib (the symptom is crashes and/or chronic GStreamer DNS failures) - I've had to sidestep several similar library problems before in ensuring that our viewer works across many distros, but this one is being a real horror. However, since it doesn't seem that we're really using libresolv for anything important right now, I'm hoping we can just disable its use and 'fix' it later, but I have to discuss that move next week with the colleague who's been driving the libresolv integration.

Another update - I think I've got the libresolv problem licked so I hope to get this to QA on Monday. That means it will likely be in the next major round of betas, i.e. SL 1.19.0.

Excellent, I am looking forward to testing it as well. I got my old public domain sci-fi movie collection all ready to show. Been telling everyone about it coming too.
