I feel we have been left in the dark over the status of the Linux client for some time now, my questions to King Philip at the last town hall drew a blank (he knew there was a Linux client) and we get nothing on the forums.

At the very minimum I would like to see a Linux client later today, even if it doesn't do all the fancy new hardware illuminated floppy magic. No client is totally unacceptable, and would undermine what little relationship the Linux community and the Lindens have.

Yepyep, as we did in the past, we're asking for information. Even though we can't speed up or have any influence on the client release, it makes waiting easier when you see that the developers care for you. How about this:

Hello Linux Alpha Client Users! The release of the Linux client will be delayed by two days. Expect a download by Friday! Thanks!

Feel free to copy & paste :) Having to go back to wine/cedega for a couple of days is not too bad, when you know that the client *will* be out eventually.

*throws the Lindens a bag of cookies* Talk to us, yes? And update Phillip on the client status, I think he needs a heads-up on the project ;)

LOL

Looks like all this worry was for nothing!

Is it my imagination or is there a Linux download link for 1.10.0!!? ;)

I hate to say it but someone got their facts wrong.

It runs for a couple of minutes max and then crashes hard.

Some MAC users have this too... A PPC user with a 6600GT from NVidia has exactly the symptoms we have...

Thanks the new Windows Client no longer works in wine. Its complaining about administrative priviledges. Don't know why.

The program crashes as soon as I log in. I'll give you the back trace if you tell me where I can send it.

Just go through winecfg and temporarily set it to Windows 98. That'll let it install. Then switch it back to WinXP or whatever you had it.

Priv failures on install was a regression that is fixed now in the mainline tree. It should work again either with the current release or the next one after that.

(Some guys are implementing the Windows security infrastructure and made a mistake .. fixed now)
