... so you did not get what you wanted - you just got, what LL(Linden Labs) had decided and what a small number of Linux users (inside and outside SL) have fought and argumented for. And what Tofu and others have done in the interest of LL/SL and they also have listened to the arguments like these: http://www.linuxjournal.com/node/1000133
... but you and others have done nothing for it to happen, just the opposit. ...
It also protects it and protects those who contribute. The thing that is interesting for LL is, that with GPL they can be sure that no other company can take the code and make it proprietary. It protects the rights of LL but also to all those who contributed and will contribute.

You have some great points, Vinci ... I like the ones I have quoted above.
About fighting and argumenting for GPL - no, most of us didn't. What we DID do, with things like this forum, and in world help, and whatever else, is show LL that there IS a Community Spirit that thinks SL is worth working hard for, and that we are capable of helping, and that we will. I am not sure that "fighting and argumenting" for GPL would speed things up; but I AM convinced, that showing a strong community spirit to get SL on the road (in this case, in Linux) DID help speed things up. So, we DID work for it - but not as an ideal, but something better than what we had , by building confidence.
You last quoted paragraph is exactly the reason that most of us were for GPL - despite the apparent risks of exposing the code to malicious hackers. It turns out that the risk is NOT that high - thanks for the clarification, LL

I think LL has shown a LOT of trust to open source the code - trust in the sense of, WE the Residents WILL work hard to make the SL Client better - and that, in my opinion, was not achieved because we fight and argue, but because we help.
