I haven't been able to connect to SL since 1.14.01 on my linux box. Message is always the same. Any ideas?

My Linux client has crashed on startup since 1.14.0 unless I have JUST sent a crash report (well, I'm not sure the Linux client sends them; unless I have just gotten and confirmed the crash report request dialog, anyway). So usually startup takes two attempts.
Now on 1.15 I ALWAYS get a crash about 2-3 seconds after login completes. I have all the log files from each scenario. Can I e-mail them somewhere or something?

Is this a CTD of the client after or during login? I'm freezing about halfway through the login process every time, but now I don't know if this is due to the client crashing/freezing or the posted login issues affecting people generally. I have not successfully logged in once with 1.15.

I have not successfully logged in once with 1.15. Mine kept taking forever to login, often with an error message so I had to try again. Eventually I get in though. The screen comes up completely for me after the bar fill all the way. I see my avatar, the world around me, and messages from my initializing attachments and such. 2-3 seconds later, the client crashes completely. I've tried turning off sound, both from the preferences and command line. I've tried turning off a lot of the graphics options. No difference. Crash. Every time.

I looked at my stack trace log and it looked like the fontconfig library was causing issues so I upgraded my fontconfig and sure enough that solved my problem. Try posting your stack trace log. And if it is not fontconfig in your case maybe it might be another library that needs to be updated.

Okay. I deleted my whole preferences directory, and don't seem to be crashing after login now. I still crash at startup unless I just confirmed the crash report dialog, but I can get back in world again! Yeah!

I will share my update glitches too
04-25-2007 19:18
Hi guys,
I'm going to get my friend Mike to fill you in here, cause I don't know diddly about computers... k, here he is...
On 1.15.0.2, there seems to be some new problems:
1. My friends list won't show anyone. I added a new person and can see just them, but none of my previous contacts are on it and there is a "waiting" message in the list all the time as if it's waiting for names?
2. If I log out (and have waited 30 seconds after) then try to go back in, it says that I am still being logged out and I have to wait until xxxx and that is usually ~5 minutes. After that, I can log in.
3. When I try to buy L$ in game, it waits a few seconds and then says that I could not be authenticated and to contact support. (and so I did send an email to them) Buying L$ on the website still works.
4. Logging in fails frequently with the message "could not contact simulator". When it does log in, it takes much longer than usual.
And here are some details if it helps..
- these problems didn't seem to happen under the previous release - I am using Fedora Core 6 - I have 2GB of RAM and an AMD X2 processor
Hope that helps your development. Mike

unicode.ttf?
04-27-2007 04:15
I linked unicode.ttf to a random ttf file in my fonts directory (Mandriva doesn' have /usr/share/fonts/truetype/kochi/kochi-mincho.ttf or any fonts named kochi anything) and it starts now.
It's still crashy but at least I can log on.
