This weeks meeting is on TUESDAY 18th 3PM SLT (11PM BST) due to easter weeked - The TShirt compo will happen then!

As most of the LUG members who came to the meeting on the 8th don't read the forums (so didn't know the group was running a compo) we have decided to give you all another week to come up with a T-Shirt - Same rules, see below. :D

So if you haven't already, join the 'Linux Client Users' Group. We have an informal meeting every Saturday 12AM SLT at Maryport (182,150,55) - In world : Find -> Events -> check upcoming -> search for 'Linux' (except this comming week - which is on tuesday!)

Myself and Zi Ree have recently been added of officers of the Linux Client Users, so if you have any questions regarding the LUG, the weekly meetings, or events (or are just want to chat), give us a shout :)

The Compo!

We need a selection of Linux themed T-Shirts to place in the freebie box. far to many people are wandering around in that fugly gray sweater!

So, At the next meeting of the SL LUG we are going to have a little T-Shirt competition.

Things like distro logo's, tux's, Linux / geek humor ("My Other T-Shirts Your Windows Box" etc etc). What ever you fancy.

1000 Linden prize for the one the group votes as the best!!

Competition Rules :
- As these are for the freebie box, you must be prepared to let your creations free into the world as copy + mod + xfer.
- As file upload on the Linux client is broken at this time, you will have to use the Windows one, Wine 0.9.9+ works (Failing that, rebooting just to upload isn't going to kill you)
- The group will vote on the winner, in the event of a tie the prize will be spilt between all the winners. You cannot vote for yourself :)

Tutorial Links :
- Great Clothing Tutorial Links & More!
- Transparency and Alpha Channels: The Definitive Guide
- Chip's Templates really are very good, read the guide
- gimp tutorials.

If you need any help, just post in this thread :)

I hate to intervene again but want to warn users that some distros and als the FSF is not always happy if their Logos are taken. Although the software is open source the Logos are often copyrighted. You can think that this is wrong and you can ignore this fact.

As an example here are the Fedora Logo Guidelines:
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Marketing/Logo

This is very different from distro to distro, so best is you look up their guidelines if you do not want to get in trouble.

That is also the reason why the GNUbie store from Jai Nomad does not have any Linux T-Shirts, yet.

On the Meeting area itself:

I have changed the seating to be more "tail friendly" :D I only did a minimal change, so if anyone wants something better, let me know.

Free coffee is available. I was impressed at how many skilled scripters/programmers come, but I know that without coffee, they cannot function :p So now we have coffee... And to avoid spillage, and pushing and shoving to get to the coffee, there are 2 machines there ;)

Warning! Contents may be hot! I take no responsibility for burns or stains...

Angel, you're just ... an Angel :D Tail friendly seats ... and COFFEE! That's just too good to be true ;)

I agree with Vinci. Logos should be verified as free to use in SL as a shirt before using them. But I'd rather see innovative designs made by you people than a copy of a distro logo anyway :)

Be Creative!

Exactly - Its a competition (with a rather fat prize as these things go), its going to have to be really shiny if you want all the cash to yourself :D

Angel - Awesome!!! - Will be over when I get out of work to have a peek :):)

Anyone participating?
04-06-2006 05:14
How are things going? :)

I have a T-Shirt design ready myself, just need to apply it on the template and add a couple of wrinkles to it to make it look nicer.

Anyone else hard at work? It's worth L$1000 after all :)

I'd like to move the upcoming Linux User Group meeting to April 18th, because easter holidays are this weekend, which may decrease the number of participants. Thiis would affect the t-shirt competition as well. What do you think?

I am OK with that; but lots of people may "assume" it is still in the Saturday, and not even look at events or the forum...

Make A Vote, Zi... on the group.... :) Then everyone will see it, even if you just make it an announcement... (Quorum = 1).

Event is changed :)

I will not be there, it is a bit late for me...

I would LOVE to see the results of the competition, though!

And maybe a short summary of any decisions etc?
