Hi Wolf,

Your only choices currently for 64bit are 1) install 32 compatibility libraries, 2) find a pre compiled version for 64 bit or build from source yourself.

Installing the compatibility libs should not be hard and Fedora should already have rpms ready with them in, you just need to your your favorite package manager to install them, they all tend to have 32 and lib in the name and I am sure if you google this there will be info.

Work on fedora packaging for secondlife is happening! including 64 bit so one day it will be easy!

Building the source, its possible and the instructions use to be pretty good, but if you have no idea about code compiling it may be a little *hairy*

64 bit

.0.5 worked for sound, i compiled it though on my 64 bit SUSE rig, .1.4 dosent work for streaming music or video at all for me, im going to try the cool second life viewer though and see how that works it.

EDIT

Both .0.5 and .1.4 crashed every single time i tried to teleport. Im intrested to know why, Idid all of the workarounds i could get out of people, nothing, the only thing i can do is when i login, login to the region I wanted to go to...

Any advice?

dual amd X2 64 6000+
3 gig ram
nvidia 8800gt
.58 tb hd space
OpenSUSE 10.3

Edit #2
Cool SL Viewer for the latest release .1.4 runs smoothly, no issues at all, no more crashes every time i tele, smooth as glass, much faster too. I highly recomend others try this and lets see if it runs as well on deb and ub

Derian:

Are you compiling on your 64 bit system and still seeing teleport related crashes?

Just to clarify.

Well the newest Issue with Ubuntu 8.04 x86_64 seems to that gstreamer is broken, i cannot play Music (streams) and Video stops at the first Frame..anybody is having the same issue ?

I'm using the Client from byteme.org.uk.

Update: figured that the problem was pulseaudio, after stopping the service all worked fine :)

(Normally Soundblaster X-Fi, but since Creative isnt nice to Linux Costomers and is releasing crap drivers..i've switched to the C-Media 8736).

If you want to keep pulse audio and have openal based applications work then look here

http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/PulseAudio#Configuration_of_OpenAL_for_PulseAudio

Just need to tell openal to use the pulseaudio server

I could not wait any longer and as 8.04 is RC, I just went for it and did a clean install, so far it it many problems, such as missing icons from 32 bit firefox and an issue that prevented any connection the internet (although I solved that) . The sound issue's seem to be the root cause of most problems in this release.

I tested streaming music with the official client and it seems to work ok, but with the 64 bit version at byteme.org.uk, streaming music is only working by stopping the pulseaudio service, as you pointed out.

My guess is its a 64bit problem as the 32bit version streams ok.

But yes I have this problem too.

I would guess that this is not a 64 bit issue but a gstreamer issue, the offical client uses fmod for streaming audio as well as normal, the byteme version (32 and 64) uses gstreamer. I expect that gstreamer is the issue here and its not using the pulseaudio server but grabbing the oss device directly.

I will have a search to see if there are any config options for gstreamer to specific an audio device/server, i think there probably is and this will solve this issue.

one thing to know: you need to start pulseaudio server BEFORE any other application that will use sound like pidgin, slviewer... otherwise those applications lock the sound device and pulseaudio is not able to work.

Thats great Michelle :), i'll fiddle from my side to in that Issue...but i really think too that the 64Bit Architecture isnt 100% ready yet..it`s imho atm more an Tinker&Fiddle thing ^^.

It works, but i dont think that this is a production ready thing.

well i love to help, and to use 64bit, in Music..and as well 3d Rendering is 64bit much faster...so i do love to tinker and fiddle on systems.

PS:

I meant the 64bit all in all :)

Yes, I do agree with it being a gstreamer issue, I guessed wrong that it was a 64bit issue as I had tested the music stream with the official viewer, which is 32bit, and just assumed.

I have the readout from terminal, from the time of pressing the button and then stopping,

this is what I get,

internet stream: http://mp3-vr-128.smgradio.com:80/
2008-04-25T16:56:41Z INFO: startInternetStream: Playing.....

(gecko:7770): GStreamer-CRITICAL **: gst_bus_source_dispatch: assertion `message != NULL' failed

Puseaudio is creating Problems in many situations, i foudn on the english as well on the german ubuntu boards many threads about it.

So i bet thats the issue, many are saying to, that the creators have to remove pulseaudio ..because it`s very instable and incompatible to many applications.
