Linux Meeting Place will be moving soon - Tofu PLEASE do not lock, this IS Linux

Hi all!

I will be moving the LUG meeting place two lots over, in Maryport.

I have been offered 1024 sq m as a swap for our current 512 sq m.

I only have tier for 512 sq m though.

If anyone has room for 512 sq m in their tier, the land is free. It should be set to LUG though, and reserved for use by the group.

If no-one wants the land, it will be sold - probably to build a shop and we as a group lose out on free land and more space plus more prims.

The land is at Maryport (237,148,49), and is already divided. I will be taking the lower half, since it has a more regular shape. The upper half is of course better for building, though.

Nothing will happen before the next meeting. If the down-time is not TOO long tomorrow, we can discuss it there.

If you are interested, and don't mind donating the tier (the land stays yours, it only gets set to group), let me know. It would be great for us as a group

Maryport land is expensive - it has GREAT views, is mainly residential, and has access to a massive bay... The last offer I had for 512 sq m was L$6000.

Maybe if we all donate a few surplus sqm to the Linux Alpha Testers Group we can get the plot as genuine group land

I would rather see a lot of small donations totalling at least 1000 sqm, that way we dont loose the land should people leave.

Just want to add, I will be able to juggle my Tier and take the land on as part of my group in the short term

Also good, though then again, it has the weakness that if anyone of "x" people leaves, our tier gets cut...

I think I read somewhere, that groups with Lindens as officers shouldn't own land...

In order to avoid any sort of FIC Wars I never seriously considered that our group, which is FULL of Lindens as Officers, should get involved in that kind of stuff.

The other alternative is the LUG Managers Group. We can add a few more members to that, if necessary, and use that as the Holding Corporation for Our Assets

Anyhow, the land is up for grabs, at the moment. The ultimate land management etc. can be part of a long-term planning project, I guess. Right now it would be GREAT if someone just grabbed the land for us to be able to use

well in the short term I will have to take the land on in the FooRoo group (used for my own land) and would need about 20 prims for my own use, its not an ideal solution, but it gets us the land now while we work out what the best thing to do for the longer term is.

I can donate up to 268 sq meters. I'd rather not donate all that, just cuz it might be useful for tiny satellite stores or something, but I can if you need me to.

Actually, I can donate enough for the whole amount of land, but I'd have to get it back by the 27th. I'm bumping my tier down, I just sold some land...I was spending way too much money on land I wasn't even really using.

Just let me know what you need, and I can handle it. As far as the land's group, there are things that can be said about Lindens in the management. But we could always start something like a "LUG Land Owners" group without them in it.

BTW, exactly what group are we talking about here? I'm in the Linux Users and Linux Client Users group...I never could figure out what the deal was with both of 'em.

The land is set to the Linux Client Users Group.

This would not have to change, regardless of who ends up owning the land, provided they are a member of the Linux Client Users Group.

The other group, of which I am also a member, seems to not really be so active, if you look at the topics that come up here - it is almost 100% Linux Client related

It seems that the topic "Linux Users" is one level too far from the burning issues, which appear to be "My SL Linux Experience" - mostly the Alpha Client, but to some extent, also Wine & the Windows client.

Starting a new group, LUG Landowners Group, to own the tier for the land, and the land, sounds like The Idea, though And with enough over tier to cover at least any one member leaving (preferably two or more though), this would be perfect!

So um, not that more land is bad, but what's wrong with the current land? Do we need 512sq-m more?

We are actually right up to the prim limits.

If you do want my land, just let me know in-world, and the group I need to end up donating it to. I'm more than happy, but I'm not gonna go donating until I know what you want me to do.

Its land that we have too MUCH of!

What we are trying to do is get a land group, to take over the LUG land - soon 1024 sq m. For that we do not need land, we need tier to be donated to a new group.

The object of this is to give us some protection in case an LUG Meeting Area Landowner (soon not only me, but also ninjafoo) leaves or downgrades their account/tier.

That would mean that LUG could lose its meeting area land.

In order for this to work, the land owner group should have enough reserve tier so that if any one tier donor left, we would not lose the land. It also has the small advanatage that many people could donate a small area to the LUG Landowner Group, and so spread the tier load better.

My tier of 512 for the old land is being used for the new land now; ninjafoo can, for a while, carry the other 512 sq m.

Since I am not likely to downgrade for a LONG time, it is really a question of how we spread the other 512 sq m tier, maybe into 3 x 256 sq m donated to the land group, so that ninjafoo does not have to carry the tier all by herself.

And no big changes - the new land is exactly ONE lot away from the old land, so even folks with old landmarks will be able to "follow the green dots" on Wednesday...

I haven't really been in too much, to really talk to any of you, but I do have some extra tier from the 4096 land I got (w00t to having a lifetime account with base land). I have an extra 1024 that I can donate of my tier to hold it for the group. Let me know, and i'll try and hop on for it. I won't use it for anything, just leave it for the group.

It's done.

We now have 1024 sq m for our meeting place, thanks to our old neighbour Kalif Cannoli who really wanted the old land, and swapped 1024 sq m for our original 512 sq m.

I propose we use some money from the LUG Donations Pot (currently at L$ 14000) to say Thank You to Kalif. He did a LOT to help us, including building a possible layout for our meeting place. I was offered L$ 6000 for my 512 sq m two weeks ago; so the extra 512 sq m is actually a REAL financial asset!

The new location is MUCH better, I think - it is flanked by the highway and the ocean (Linden Land), as well as being double as large -. with more possibilities to rez complex builds, or set up the area as a meeting place.

ninjafoo Ng has started a new group to own this land. It is called SL Linux User Group. If we can get some tier in this group, we can deed the 1024 sq m into this group. This helps with continuity, if some tier donors have to downgrade their tier, and land management.

Just to repeat it, and be monotonous , here is the location again: Maryport (236, 147, 55). It is well within walking distance of the old place, so you can park your car/plane/ship/blimp/hoverboard/magic carpet as usual, and stroll up to the meetings - or fly, for that matter

I have posted the event for the 15th of November. The location is set to my my half of the new meeting place, because that's all I am allowed to do until all the land moves to the new group. When the ownership of the land is finalised, the location of the event will be more exact

I should be able to make that meeting, I'm off from work that day; I just have to be up early enough. I've gone ahead and donated what I could, 244 sq m to the group; I figure you can't hurt to have too much, at least until we get things ironed out. *shrug*

I'm all for helping out, but there's not too much I'm able to do, time-wise. Whenever I can get on, it's not at a "normal" time (notice I'm posting this at 3 am sl time, 5 am my time...), but I'm more than willing to help!

You can join the new group, and donate tier to it, without having to have the land.

We would all feel much better, if the tier we need for the land is well covered - but no-one should have to pay tier for the group land.
