I'm not sure which version of glibc that is, and while they usually constitute a programming error, many programs come back with these.
It can be worked around by setting
MALLOC_CHECK_=0 in the environment (eg: MALLOC_CHECK_=0 ./secondlife).
Glibc on some distributions go so far as disabling the malloc checks by default since they don't provide that much info by themselves, and usually take the flak out on users.

Problem solved :)

Thanks to everybody that tried to help me, meaning, thank you Kirjah. :) Well i dont even know what really solved it, but as someone may be interested in the future I did this:

1-I read somewhere that the firefox java plugin could mess the embedded firefox in login screen
2-I tried to uninstall all firefox using synaptic and ended up uninstalled nautilus and a loooot of stuff O_O (damn, i bite the table).
3-Being a nooby and not knowing what to do I reinstalled Ubuntu from scratch.
4-Not knowing if i should upgrade firefox or not I decided not to do it.
5-When i tested SL i received the "windows creation error"
6-Reading the linux read me i saw the recommendation to download and install nvidia drivers (my videocard is Nvidia Geforce 6200) from nvidia website. Thanks God I remembered that I messed my system trying to install that thing once, so I gave up. And anyway they say i would have to recompile the system. No way! Im Nooby! O_O
7-Through the Restricted Drivers Manager (in System\Administration) I found an NVidea driver O_O I dont know if the installation detected my videocard and let it there waiting for me to use it. Anyway, i used it and then SL worked perfectly. But Im affraid of upgrading firefox O_O

Thats it. Thanks again Kirjah =)

Do the upgrade

You do not have to worry of upgrading firefox or anything else, the only thing you needed from the beginning was the nvidia driver. :D

I second Bas

There is no Linux distribution which install the binary (and official) drivers of Nvidia or ATI.
You need to install them seperatly which is not that difficult.

So for you, Firefox has never been the problem...you need 3D and that is only possible with binary drivers...the opensource drivers (which are installed by default if your card is detected correctly) are not able to do so.

...With the exception of Gentoo. ;)

Ubuntu and Debian provide binary packages for the NVIDIA modules, and also feature a tool called module-assistant which can automatically build the sources for your kernel if you're not using the latest for that branch.

Im having this exact same problem. I have the latest glx drivers and a 7800gtx... It was working fine, untill i upgraded to the newest client. Not sure what this is about. I dont get any errors, and a whole crap ton of stuff loads in the term.... but it always stalls on this:

Is this a common issue???

I'm not sure if it's a common issue, but i have the same problem with an NVidia 7950 GT on OpenSuse 10.2.

Specs:
CPU: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3500+
Memory: 1 GB Ram
Distro: OpenSuse 10.2 (with a lot of added packages)
Video: GeForce 7950 GT (2.1.1 NVIDIA 100.14.1)
Kernel: 2.6
Second Life version: 1.18.1.2

Same issue for myself and a previous poster
/263/15/201561/1.html. Simple clean of the cache and unpacking a new archive resolved the problem.
