Ok I admit i'm a wicked n00b to Linux so i have no idea what i'm doing in the slightest. Ok so i downloaded the Linux file for secondlife onto my comp and got it out of its archive file and now i'm stuck. I'm sure i'm missing something really simple but how the hell do i open Second life itself? because when i open the Second Life dirrectory and try and click anything, non of them will open the Second Life cliant.

There are quite a few threads about how to get the linux client to work. Basically it's always the best not to start second life by clicking on an icon but to use the command line terminal, change into the second life folder and run ./secondlife by hand.
If you're new to Linux, this might be a little confusing at first, but you get used to it fairly quickly. Some references you might find helpful: -------------------------------------------------------- http://stux.wikiinfo.org/ (especially the FAQ part) /263/a3/101276/1.html /263/1f/98210/1.html /263/fa/92836/1.html /263/9c/86253/1.html If you get errors or strange behaviour, try the forum search on the error message first. Most of the problems have been discussed already and offer solutions. If that doesn't help, feel free to ask, of course. Specify your distribution (SuSE, Fedora, ubuntu, knoppix, debian ...), your CPU type (P4, AMD, AMD64...) and graphics card model (ATi, NVidia, Intel...). Good luck! _____________________

Open a terminal.
CODE # cd directory/where/you/put/Secondlife_1_9_0_21/ Running it in a terminal makes you see any errors generated, you may have clicked on the correct thing. If you have any further problems please copy and paste the output from secondlife here _____________________

CODE window creation failure. SDL: Couldn't find matching GLX visual This usually means, your graphics card drivers are not / incorrectly installed. Please make sure you're usind 3D accellerated drivers (most of them are binary drivers provided by the vendor of your card's chipset). Please tell us your system's specifications as requested in my earlier post. Keep trying ![]() _____________________

Merf, Ok yah well apparently this computer doesn't have a graphic CARD, it has a crapy graphics contoler built into the mothor board. So i have to search through my pile of broken computers for a graphics card that doesn't suck so it could be a while before i attempt running Second Life again.
Thankies again for all the help, *kisses for all* ~Lilly Noodle =^_^= |

The onboard graphics controller might be sufficient if you can get hardware acceleration to work. Paste the output of "glxinfo" and "lspci", and we'll see what's what. |

At the moment you dont need that much of a graphics card from a GPU standpoint, You just need to have plenty of memory on the card.
