What about Ashford ? Close to London, direct link via the Eurostar, relatively inexpensive, Easy for french people to come too ?
Also, places near Stansted Airport. Relatively inexpensive (again), very accessible from London, and low-costs land there from Ireland and other UK cities. _____________________

venues first, location second.

I'm sure Sunderland/Newcastle would be suitable.
Aside from the location of a propsed SL:UK convention/meetup, the capacity and capabilities of any propsed venues should be taken into consideration first. It'd be nice for the place to have wired/secured wireless net access so that residents with laptops could play SL while they're at the event. Big giant screens would be a nice edge too, for any guest speakers to demonstrate stuff within SL etc. Once a number of interested residents had been estimated, we should be looking for venues all over the UK that meet the requirements of an event, with geographical considerations being secondary. My Uni has several such buildings at it's disposal (which I'm sure I could probably nab for a weekend)- Large lecture theatres- one in particular has an absolutely massive projection screen in, plenty of bars ![]() Should the Uni's facilities not be sufficient or accessible, the local leisure centre has a large and spacious hall- which the Uni recently borrowed for it's union clubs & groups fair. Travelwise, Sunderland is accessible by road, rail and air (via Newcastle methinx). For accomodation, there are plenty of hotels in the area. |

Everything is within walking distance of each other- but you do enhance the point I was trying to make- we should be suggesting venues, not locations.

How about an SL venue?
11-07-2005 07:38
Well, since we clearly have a consensus on somewhere in England, Scotland or Wales, let's have a first meet in SL. Neutral territory for everyone, and no rain!

Good idea - my castle is open for gatherings and I can even provide food and drink. Say, this Wednesday evening from 6:30 on? It's in Grindlewald and the location is on my profile picks. Come over and wander about first if you like.

Okay, following the SLCC meetup which appeared to be a well thought out excercise with much intellectual content. Might I suggest the following. Day1. Arrive in manchester. 6pm : Meet in a dark room above a pub. 6:15pm : Commence drinking. 2am: Bugger off to wherever we are sleeping. Day2. Daytime : Freetime. 4pm : Meet in the dark room above the same pub 4:01pm : commence drinking. 2am : go to bed. Day3 Go home. I think that represents a marvelous variety of activities well suited to the UK SL users. P.S. At some point we can talk about SL, call each other by our SL names, and discuss the merits of 'Bling'. LOL now that's my kind of itinerary! _____________________

Ok, so I know i'm kinda late turning up, but i've only just been pointed in SL's direction!
If anyone's still watching this thread - Stafford, but I wouldn't recommend it for a meet! ![]() _____________________

Either they've moved Stafford, or you meant about not recommending it ...

Euro Linden Christmas Party!
11-21-2005 04:34
Jack, Harry, Nigel, Data, Tesla and I would like to invite you to the Euro Linden Christmas Party in Nottingham, England on Sunday the 11th of December!
If you're interested in coming please let us know on this thread: /234/04/72782/1.html Once we've got an idea of numbers I'll try to organise an appropriate venue (or failing that just choose an appropriately sized pub). Cheers, Babbage. |
