I too am waiting to hear back on an application, although only a few weeks.
Even a "thanks but no thanks" canned reply would be better than nothing. A Linden response as to the status of these programmes would be appreciated. After all, isn't "first impressions" one of the most important things to any new player? A good or bad one may well be the difference between logging out never to sign in again, and the person getting a premium account (and $$$$$ for LL). Having had experience of dealing with new players in what is probably the oldest (and very well known) still active property in the Welcome Category in my particular city in Sims Online for over 2½ years, I understand the importance of a good introduction to the game. The amount of players who have come back after several months to thank me for my help in getting to grips with the basics of the game I have lost count of. Basically we're doing LL's job for free, and volunteering to do so. You would have thought that they'd have jumped at the offer. *shrug* Lewis _____________________

From what I understand, the volunteers are replaced on a need-to basis.
On a sidenote, the Linden in charge of hiring volunteers also moderates this forum, so there's a very good chance she saw this: /108/e1/79064/2.html#post815885 A volunteer is required to display tolerance, even if they may not agree with what some residents spend their time doing. _____________________

Ok now I am very very confused.
Having heard nothing in game or my email (which I check several times daily), I was minding my own business in game then up pops a message: Greeter System: You have received a greeter request from @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@. Please be sure to periodically search for them, and IM when they arrive. So...... I would assume that this means that I have been accepted onto the Greeter program - but wouldn't some sort of welcome, or guidelines, and perhaps a 'group' to activate have been sent too? Update: I am now a greeter ![]() Lewis _____________________

Just reply this message when you are online!" Anyway welcome!!!! How does Hi there, I'm Lewis Nerd, your assigned Greeter! Look for me in game using Find / People and type my name... if I'm online send me an Instant Message, but I'll keep looking for you. Welcome to Second Life! sound? Thanks for the welcome ![]() I didn't know people could actually pick their greeter... should I have created a 'bio' or something so that people know what they are getting if they pick me? After all, being stuck in the seventies might be a bit of a shock if people aren't used to wierd things, and might prefer a furry or a blue alien instead. Lewis _____________________

Do they even know who their Greeter is, by the way? Lewis It happens hun......I remeber back at the start i got like 20 in the about 1 hour. But then again those greeter that DID NOT have their greeters on......I landed up with unreal amounts at that time. I burntout. Well yes they do know their greeters. But Iming then even if they don`t show on ONLINE status is always a good idea. _____________________

Welcome to SL Greeters, Lewis. Your proposed IM is perfect. I have mine on a notecard, so I can just cut & paste it into the IM.
I usually allow four names before I turn off my button. Out of the four, one may show. I send each of them an IM anyway. The new in-game notification system should help in getting too many greeter requests to handle at one time. If you weren’t at the meeting, see the 1-10 greeter meeting notes, posted by Jeska to see what is coming by way of a new greeter system. (Actually, I think I remember seeing you there ![]() If you or any new Greeter would like to work with me for a day or so to get an idea of what I do, feel free to IM me. If I am not in-game, it will send me an email and, I will contact you when I get in-game. Jen |

Well yes they do know their greeters. But Iming then even if they don`t show on ONLINE status is always a good idea. I didn't know anything about greeters until about 2 weeks in SL. There was just too much information to process and I missed who my greeter was supposed to be. As far as I know the greeter never made any attempts to find me, I found her 2 weeks after I joined SL just to say hi. By this point I already made friends who helped me get settled in. |

These days the greeter program is better organized....at the start there was alot of growing pains. But now things are getting better. Jeska is running things better these days. Some areas need important but toerh then that its going well. _____________________

Linden Lab having difficulty with the most basic of commuincations to its volunteer labor pool? Inconceivable!
On the other hand, I'm still getting semantically null mail to the Live-Helpers list more than six months after I resigned - I'm not sure if this is a good or bad thing ![]() |

Another month passed and still no reply from LL ... *nods* I know the feeling. They should change where it states that the turnaround is about 2 weeks. How long ago was that true? |

If you look at the current numbers of members we have a in the groups we have alot . It looks like LLabs is cutting back on the numbers thy are taking these days. _____________________

I'm not saying whether Jeska is doing good or bad, just that the statement that the process takes 2 weeks has not been valid a long time and should probably be removed. No offense but weren't you one of the most vocal about not getting a reply until very recently? |

With LiveHelp, this is how it works.
They have an amount of LiveHelpers they want to maintain that amount, as people leave the group, they add people, in order of which their application was recieved. AFAIK.. I imagine the greeters is the same. _____________________
