As you may have probably been reading here, and most likely exchanging ideas in-world as well, there has been some demand of exchanging ideas, tips, information, notecards with guides, freebie packs and "newbie kits", in order to better help out the new residents that pop in. I suggest that we get together in-world in order to exchange that information among ourselves more easily. Also, perhaps we could use this opportunity to get people from the different groups to uniformize their information and data, and, if people are willing, see how we can organize ourselves better (although we may postpone that to a future meeting). http://secondlife.com/events/event.php?id=81144&date=1125853200(ie, Sunday, September 4th, 8:00 AM) Suggestions for things to discuss/information to exchange are most welcome And I hope to post a log of the gathering here as well, and eventually do further informal gatherings - although not too many, or else people won't have time for doing their volunteering (sorry for crossposting this on the SL Greeters forum as well)

From: Till Stirling Since LiveHelpers are expressively excluded I will not come... Till Stirling Expressly? Where was there an express "NO LIVE HELPERS"? Or do you mean implicit, since Gwyneth missed typing out the title?

Till, sorry about the mistype - yes, of course you're more than welcome to appear, as well as any other SL Volunteer, "organized" or not (these days, there are appearing increasingly more groups of non-official volunteers - ie. not tied to Linden-created groups - and these are obviously also more than welcome to appear). Remember, I just suggested a way for us to interachange ideas, notecards, welcome kits, etc. It's far easier to do that when more of us are together in the same spot instead of IMing people individually for getting those items And seriously, I don't expect many people to appear - but the best we can hope for is to try, and then let someone else post a similar event at other hours (to try to cover people from other timezones). I would also probably suggest something like having a "common area" in-world where we could drop those items/notecards. It could be either Linden-sponsored, or, better still, resident-run. Imagine something like a version of Yadni's Junkyard, but for the SL Volunteers to pick up "kits". Well, we can surely discuss that idea as well in a few hours

It's not my idea, Cid - it has been around for quite some time and I admit my lazyness of not searching for all the forums for the many people who have suggested this over and over again. Remember "Mentor Island"...? Well, perhaps the time wasn't ripe for such a large-scale project...

I agree I have become somewhat touchy when it comes to omissions like that, but given the way things have been with various meetings and events (and still are), I believe it is more than understandable...
Why did I assume that LHs (and other helpers) were not invited? Well read the title of the post: Informal Gathering of Mentors, Instructors and Greeters. It lists the people that the meeting is for. As you correctly noted in a later post there are lots more of people and groups which give quite a bit of their time and engagement than just the three listed ones .... If you want a meeting where all helping groups/people are invited, you should word it acordingly. But that is just my opinion.
I am more than willing to share the tools and cards, I created for LiveHelp with other helpers outside of LiveHelp. I have also more than enough room to setup a place as you described. Since you widend the invitation, I will see if I can come.

I'm an idiot. Yes, the event is scheduled correctly, the announcement is wrong. Thanks Merwan - and my apologies to all. I'll still hold it in about an hour
